Today we wrap up our series on the Armour Of God with this sixth and final episode. Today we take a look at the Sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. To have this conversation I had felt to bring on Ammon Jeffs. We start out by discussing what the Sword of the Spirit is and how we as Mormons have a unique and expansive definition of scripture that gives us much more to utilize as disciples of Jesus Christ. From there we move into examples of people who have used scripture to repel attacks from the adversary. After that we then move on to talk about how studying the scriptures helps enter into a revelatory space as we both share personal examples of how that has worked. All along the way taking moments to talk about other principles in the Restored Gospel.

1
00:00:10,840 --> 00:00:16,120
Hammond, what's going on, man?
Hey just been staying busy and

2
00:00:17,080 --> 00:00:20,640
healthy and happy and grateful
that the Lord's blessed our

3
00:00:20,640 --> 00:00:25,360
little one with help.
Yeah, I am so glad she came

4
00:00:25,360 --> 00:00:27,520
through that.
All right, brother, we were, we

5
00:00:27,520 --> 00:00:30,040
were definitely pulling for you
and praying for you every bit we

6
00:00:30,040 --> 00:00:33,920
could to, to, to try to have
that kind of outcome.

7
00:00:33,920 --> 00:00:37,360
And I'm sure glad it did.
Yeah, we're so thankful for

8
00:00:37,360 --> 00:00:40,680
everyone's prayers.
We felt that and watched her

9
00:00:41,240 --> 00:00:45,680
become a miracle.
No, that's, that's great.

10
00:00:45,680 --> 00:00:53,120
I am so, so happy for you guys.
So, man, it's, you know, it's

11
00:00:53,120 --> 00:00:59,280
amazing what what a group of
people can do when they just

12
00:00:59,280 --> 00:01:02,760
petition God, right?
And there's something about

13
00:01:02,760 --> 00:01:07,080
praying with others, even though
even if it's thousands of miles

14
00:01:07,080 --> 00:01:12,080
apart, that I think really has
an impact that I'm not sure we

15
00:01:12,080 --> 00:01:16,360
even understand how it works or
just how much of an impact it

16
00:01:16,360 --> 00:01:17,240
can all have.
Ammon.

17
00:01:18,040 --> 00:01:19,640
Right.
Well, I sure believe that.

18
00:01:21,280 --> 00:01:24,760
So, but anyway, we're moving on,
man, your, your, your second

19
00:01:24,760 --> 00:01:27,640
time around on the podcast.
I'm super excited for it.

20
00:01:27,640 --> 00:01:32,320
We're finishing up the the Armor
of God series and you're going

21
00:01:32,320 --> 00:01:36,160
to be talking about the, the,
the sword of the spirit, which

22
00:01:36,160 --> 00:01:39,720
is the word of God.
So man, I'm super excited for

23
00:01:39,720 --> 00:01:44,000
this one.
Well, I'm glad to be here and

24
00:01:45,400 --> 00:01:50,000
hope everyone can bear with me
as I learn alongside you.

25
00:01:51,360 --> 00:01:54,120
Oh, I think, look, I'm going to
be honest with you.

26
00:01:54,120 --> 00:01:59,400
I make all these a matter of
prayer before I ever ask anyone

27
00:01:59,400 --> 00:02:04,880
to come on or anything.
And I, I am almost positive am

28
00:02:04,880 --> 00:02:06,880
in that, that you're going to,
you're going to say something

29
00:02:06,880 --> 00:02:08,280
that's going to stick with
everybody.

30
00:02:08,280 --> 00:02:11,200
So man, let's, let's jump in.
I'm excited.

31
00:02:12,320 --> 00:02:19,000
OK, well we'll I'll start with
the verse in Ephesians where we

32
00:02:19,000 --> 00:02:23,040
first hear this, far as I know
in the Scripture.

33
00:02:25,000 --> 00:02:31,360
So it says Ephesians 6 verse 17
and take the helmet of salvation

34
00:02:31,880 --> 00:02:34,640
and the sword of the Spirit,
which is the word of God.

35
00:02:35,720 --> 00:02:39,240
So it tells us right off what
the sword of the Spirit is.

36
00:02:40,120 --> 00:02:46,960
And we find it again in section
27 verse 18.

37
00:02:47,240 --> 00:02:54,320
I'll open to that.
And in this revelation to the

38
00:02:54,320 --> 00:02:57,840
Prophet Joseph, he says just a
little more than you read in

39
00:02:57,840 --> 00:03:03,640
Ephesians 6.
So section 27, verse 18, He

40
00:03:03,640 --> 00:03:07,800
says, and take the helmet of
salvation and the sword of my

41
00:03:07,800 --> 00:03:12,680
spirit, which I will pour out
upon you, and my word, which I

42
00:03:12,680 --> 00:03:16,200
reveal unto you, and be agreed
as touching all things

43
00:03:16,200 --> 00:03:20,920
whatsoever you ask of me.
So, so he says a little more

44
00:03:20,920 --> 00:03:23,360
than just the sword of my
spirit, which is my word, He.

45
00:03:24,320 --> 00:03:26,280
Sure did.
Let let's read that again just

46
00:03:26,280 --> 00:03:28,840
to be sure and repeat where
that's at because I I think

47
00:03:28,840 --> 00:03:31,240
that's super important.
I'm glad you picked up on that.

48
00:03:32,680 --> 00:03:35,840
So so Doctrine and Covenants 27
verse 18.

49
00:03:36,960 --> 00:03:41,240
And he says, Take the helmet of
salvation, and the sword of my

50
00:03:41,240 --> 00:03:46,320
spirit, which I will pour out
upon you, and my word, which I

51
00:03:46,320 --> 00:03:49,200
reveal unto you, and be agreed
as touching all things

52
00:03:49,200 --> 00:03:52,160
whatsoever you ask of me.
So.

53
00:03:52,160 --> 00:03:54,680
And there he makes a little more
of a distinction than just

54
00:03:54,680 --> 00:03:56,760
saying, The sword of the spirit
is my word.

55
00:03:56,760 --> 00:04:01,480
He says The sword of my spirit,
which I will pour out upon you,

56
00:04:01,480 --> 00:04:05,480
talking or referencing the
spirit and His word, which He

57
00:04:05,480 --> 00:04:09,000
will reveal unto you.
Right, right.

58
00:04:09,280 --> 00:04:12,640
So it like, correct me if I'm
wrong it and and again, I'm

59
00:04:12,640 --> 00:04:16,000
really glad you picked up on
that because I kind of looked at

60
00:04:16,000 --> 00:04:20,880
that, compared the two.
The thing that really stood out

61
00:04:20,880 --> 00:04:27,040
to me was how it seems to be
talking both about the Canon of

62
00:04:27,040 --> 00:04:31,280
scripture as we now have it, as
well as additional things that

63
00:04:31,280 --> 00:04:33,240
the Lord will reveal to us,
right.

64
00:04:33,240 --> 00:04:37,080
That's part of his word as well.
And I think that is so important

65
00:04:37,080 --> 00:04:42,960
because it really does separate
Mormonism from from like some of

66
00:04:42,960 --> 00:04:45,680
our sectarian brothers and
sisters and how they they view

67
00:04:45,680 --> 00:04:48,720
the gospel.
Correct.

68
00:04:49,400 --> 00:04:53,720
And, and that's what I'd like to
talk about is what is the word

69
00:04:53,720 --> 00:04:58,040
of God, especially in Mormonism,
what do we reference when we're

70
00:04:58,200 --> 00:05:03,680
when we say the word of God?
Because it is in the sword of

71
00:05:03,680 --> 00:05:08,000
the Spirit, it's obviously a
defensive as well as an

72
00:05:08,000 --> 00:05:11,960
offensive weapon.
Defensive in protecting you from

73
00:05:11,960 --> 00:05:16,440
temptation, offensive in being
able to move forward in your

74
00:05:16,440 --> 00:05:20,560
life, being able to conquer
evil, and so forth.

75
00:05:22,160 --> 00:05:23,920
And so how do you use the Word
of God?

76
00:05:23,920 --> 00:05:27,000
And what is the Word of God is
what really becomes the question

77
00:05:27,000 --> 00:05:30,160
in when we reference the sword
of the Spirit.

78
00:05:30,960 --> 00:05:35,880
Right.
So if you'll bear with me, I'll

79
00:05:35,880 --> 00:05:39,640
go through different verses in
the Book of Mormon, but we

80
00:05:39,720 --> 00:05:44,680
discussed this.
We go to the vision.

81
00:05:44,680 --> 00:05:49,520
Nephi and his father Lehi both
had Lehi 1st and then Nephi when

82
00:05:49,520 --> 00:05:52,280
he sought to understand what his
father saw.

83
00:05:53,320 --> 00:05:59,880
And he discovers that the tree
of life represents the love of

84
00:05:59,880 --> 00:06:07,200
God, and which Meroni and Mormon
referred to as charity, and the

85
00:06:07,680 --> 00:06:13,040
something that is the most to be
desired above all other things,

86
00:06:13,040 --> 00:06:17,840
this love of God.
But on the journey to partake of

87
00:06:17,840 --> 00:06:22,880
the love of God, Nephi sees this
narrow path they must walk.

88
00:06:23,920 --> 00:06:30,080
And many people started in that
path and then they would get

89
00:06:30,080 --> 00:06:32,880
distracted or in the mists of
darkness come along and they'd

90
00:06:32,880 --> 00:06:36,720
lose their way.
But along that path was a rod of

91
00:06:36,720 --> 00:06:41,440
iron.
And he says in first Nephi 11

92
00:06:41,440 --> 00:06:46,840
verse 25 And it came to pass
that I beheld the rod of iron

93
00:06:46,840 --> 00:06:51,880
which my father had seen was the
word of God which led to the

94
00:06:51,880 --> 00:06:56,360
fountain of living waters or to
the tree of life, which waters

95
00:06:56,360 --> 00:06:58,880
are a representation of the love
of God.

96
00:06:59,560 --> 00:07:02,720
And I also beheld that the tree
of life was a representation of

97
00:07:02,720 --> 00:07:06,720
the love of God.
Pardon me.

98
00:07:07,960 --> 00:07:12,200
So there we see the iron rod is
the word of God.

99
00:07:12,200 --> 00:07:16,080
So this sort of the spirit the
word of God represented.

100
00:07:16,080 --> 00:07:24,120
And here is an iron rod or a
key, a guide to the love of God,

101
00:07:24,200 --> 00:07:30,720
the fruit of the tree of life.
And you can look at the

102
00:07:30,720 --> 00:07:33,080
scripture, you can read the
Bible, you can read the Book of

103
00:07:33,080 --> 00:07:36,120
Mormon, the Doctrine and
Covenants and say, well, that's

104
00:07:36,120 --> 00:07:40,080
the word of God.
And I believe that would be a

105
00:07:40,080 --> 00:07:44,120
correct answer in part, that the
scriptures could consider the

106
00:07:44,120 --> 00:07:47,080
word of God.
But there's plenty of people

107
00:07:47,080 --> 00:07:50,080
that just take the scriptures
for their guide and they still

108
00:07:50,600 --> 00:07:54,360
don't attain to that fruit of
the tree of life, the love of

109
00:07:54,360 --> 00:07:59,480
God, that gift perfected in
them, that Christ like love.

110
00:08:01,360 --> 00:08:05,880
And so there's something more
than that because you see, even

111
00:08:05,880 --> 00:08:08,760
in Mormonism, people's
interpretation of the scriptures

112
00:08:08,760 --> 00:08:12,320
are different and people are
going to go on in different

113
00:08:12,320 --> 00:08:16,720
paths.
So I believe as it references

114
00:08:16,720 --> 00:08:20,400
the in the Doctrine and
Covenants, the sword of His

115
00:08:20,400 --> 00:08:24,120
Spirit which He will put out
upon you, refers to the gift of

116
00:08:24,120 --> 00:08:30,120
personal revelation, to be the
guide, the Word of God directly

117
00:08:30,120 --> 00:08:34,760
to you from Him untainted,
nothing coming between you and

118
00:08:34,760 --> 00:08:39,400
God as that guide to the fruit
of the tree of life, as that

119
00:08:39,400 --> 00:08:46,920
protection and temptation as
your sword. 100% Can I just, can

120
00:08:46,920 --> 00:08:52,200
I just pop in here real quick?
Ammon, I, I think, I, I think

121
00:08:52,200 --> 00:08:57,480
you are 100% right.
If we look at a couple different

122
00:08:57,480 --> 00:09:01,800
verses in the Bible, 1 is in
John where, where Jesus is

123
00:09:01,800 --> 00:09:06,880
talking to the, talking to his
disciples and he asks them who I

124
00:09:06,880 --> 00:09:08,760
am.
You know, who, who, who do

125
00:09:08,760 --> 00:09:10,960
people say that I am?
And they're like, well, some say

126
00:09:10,960 --> 00:09:12,800
you're John the Baptist, other
Elias.

127
00:09:13,320 --> 00:09:15,840
And then he asked again, he
said, no, who do you say that I

128
00:09:15,840 --> 00:09:18,040
am?
And Peter answers and said, you

129
00:09:18,040 --> 00:09:19,640
art the Christ, the Son of the
living God.

130
00:09:19,640 --> 00:09:24,040
And he says, blessed art thou,
Simon Barjona, because flesh and

131
00:09:24,040 --> 00:09:27,120
blood have not revealed this to
you, but your Father, which is

132
00:09:27,120 --> 00:09:30,440
in heaven.
And upon this rock shall I build

133
00:09:30,440 --> 00:09:33,280
my church.
Now there's a couple of

134
00:09:33,280 --> 00:09:35,080
interesting things with that
verse.

135
00:09:35,080 --> 00:09:42,120
First, we often think that what
the Savior is saying there is

136
00:09:42,120 --> 00:09:46,320
that he's going to build his
church on Peter right off of

137
00:09:46,320 --> 00:09:51,040
Peter's labor, right?
And that's not 100% untrue,

138
00:09:51,040 --> 00:09:53,760
right?
We do know that Peter retains

139
00:09:54,080 --> 00:09:58,080
his his standing as chief
apostle and he does do a lot of

140
00:09:58,080 --> 00:10:00,960
good work.
But I don't think that that's

141
00:10:01,000 --> 00:10:03,040
the only thing the Savior saying
there.

142
00:10:03,320 --> 00:10:06,800
I think what the Savior's
actually saying is that that

143
00:10:06,800 --> 00:10:10,560
message that Simon got, that
Peter got was from God.

144
00:10:10,560 --> 00:10:13,840
That was revelation.
And then he said, he doesn't say

145
00:10:14,240 --> 00:10:19,120
and upon you, Peter, he says
upon this rock.

146
00:10:19,120 --> 00:10:22,120
Now I do believe there's a play
on words there, but I think the

147
00:10:22,120 --> 00:10:24,960
Savior saying is this is going
to be built on revelation,

148
00:10:25,720 --> 00:10:27,880
right?
My kingdom's going to be built

149
00:10:27,880 --> 00:10:30,400
on revelation.
And then we have a second

150
00:10:30,400 --> 00:10:32,240
witness of this in the Doctrine
and Covenants.

151
00:10:32,240 --> 00:10:36,120
I can't remember where it's at,
but we have the Lord that tells

152
00:10:37,440 --> 00:10:41,560
Joseph Smith what scripture is.
And this is where Mormonism gets

153
00:10:41,560 --> 00:10:46,760
really unique from other
Christian denominations is

154
00:10:46,760 --> 00:10:50,280
because scripture is anything
according to the Doctrine and

155
00:10:50,280 --> 00:10:54,160
covenants that proceeds from the
mouth of the servants of God

156
00:10:54,160 --> 00:10:55,960
while under the direction of the
Holy Ghost.

157
00:10:56,600 --> 00:11:01,240
And so that should really open
up our minds into how to obtain

158
00:11:01,240 --> 00:11:04,720
his word, right?
I think, I think not only is it

159
00:11:04,720 --> 00:11:08,600
the the the standard works that
we carry to church each day

160
00:11:08,960 --> 00:11:12,960
Sunday or what we have on our
phone, that's a Canon of

161
00:11:12,960 --> 00:11:14,920
scripture.
That's not all the scripture.

162
00:11:15,240 --> 00:11:17,920
I think we can look at the
teachings of the Prophet Joseph

163
00:11:17,920 --> 00:11:19,640
Smith.
I've got no problems calling

164
00:11:19,640 --> 00:11:22,400
that scripture, right.
A lot of the things that we can

165
00:11:22,400 --> 00:11:25,880
find in the Journal of
Discourses, I think we have so

166
00:11:25,880 --> 00:11:27,800
much more scripture available to
us.

167
00:11:28,520 --> 00:11:31,600
And likewise, I think we we
really do need that gift of

168
00:11:31,600 --> 00:11:34,160
revelation to really get the
word of God.

169
00:11:34,160 --> 00:11:37,920
I love where you're going here.
Right, exactly.

170
00:11:37,920 --> 00:11:42,560
And I, I believe that wasn't a
revelation to Orson Hyde when he

171
00:11:42,560 --> 00:11:44,160
was calling him to preach the
gospel.

172
00:11:45,160 --> 00:11:51,280
What you were just referenced.
And the amazing thing is in the

173
00:11:51,280 --> 00:11:55,040
Doctrine of Covenants, the Lord
also reveals that every person

174
00:11:55,040 --> 00:11:59,320
born into the world has that
gift already placed within them,

175
00:12:00,240 --> 00:12:03,080
the light of Christ in their
heart and mind, the difference

176
00:12:03,360 --> 00:12:07,600
between good and evil.
And I believe he spelled that

177
00:12:07,600 --> 00:12:12,040
out on section 84, that verse
that says that the Spirit giveth

178
00:12:12,040 --> 00:12:15,560
light to every man that cometh
into the world and enlighteneth

179
00:12:15,560 --> 00:12:19,400
every man through the world, the
hearkeneth of the voice of the

180
00:12:19,400 --> 00:12:23,080
Spirit, and that brings us to
God.

181
00:12:23,080 --> 00:12:29,920
So that's something you find
more.

182
00:12:29,920 --> 00:12:35,160
And Mormonism also, that idea
that every person born is given

183
00:12:35,160 --> 00:12:39,000
a gift and all good from evil,
the gift of conscience we could

184
00:12:39,000 --> 00:12:45,120
call it too, absolutely.
And then that light, as it has

185
00:12:45,120 --> 00:12:49,440
learned and followed, that leads
you to the gospel, that leads

186
00:12:49,440 --> 00:12:54,160
you to the gifts of the Spirit
of God, not ultimate ultimately

187
00:12:54,160 --> 00:13:04,720
to be like God. 100% So let me
ask you this question, Adam.

188
00:13:06,240 --> 00:13:10,000
We've kind of defined here what
what the word of God is going to

189
00:13:10,000 --> 00:13:14,120
be from a Mormon context, right?
It is the Canon of scripture we

190
00:13:14,120 --> 00:13:15,880
got.
It's anything that proceeds from

191
00:13:15,880 --> 00:13:17,280
the mouth of the servants of
God.

192
00:13:17,840 --> 00:13:21,400
I do believe that we can receive
kind of personal scripture from

193
00:13:21,400 --> 00:13:24,720
the Lord, right?
Messages on what to do.

194
00:13:25,520 --> 00:13:30,960
But how do we, how do we make
the most out of the Canon of

195
00:13:30,960 --> 00:13:34,080
Scripture we have?
And then how do we go about

196
00:13:34,080 --> 00:13:40,360
attaining to that, that, that
revelation that we need?

197
00:13:40,360 --> 00:13:43,560
That's the word of God as well.
What do we got to do there to do

198
00:13:43,560 --> 00:13:44,920
that?
How do we get the most out of

199
00:13:44,920 --> 00:13:49,800
the scriptures that we do have?
So I believe first, when you

200
00:13:50,360 --> 00:13:54,720
read the scriptures, it's with a
prayerful heart to be guided.

201
00:13:55,720 --> 00:14:00,040
What do you need in this moment
from that scripture as a guide

202
00:14:00,040 --> 00:14:04,000
and or where to go on the
scripture to receive guidance of

203
00:14:04,000 --> 00:14:07,880
what you need in this moment.
I believe the two work together.

204
00:14:08,560 --> 00:14:12,360
You, you take one without the
other and you're missing

205
00:14:12,360 --> 00:14:14,600
something.
But I think they work hand in

206
00:14:14,600 --> 00:14:18,240
hand as a guide to individual
people.

207
00:14:18,240 --> 00:14:22,360
And you know, you read the Book
of Mormon or any other scripture

208
00:14:22,360 --> 00:14:27,320
at one time, and one scripture
will come to you in a in a

209
00:14:27,320 --> 00:14:30,760
different light than you ever
saw it before based upon your

210
00:14:30,760 --> 00:14:35,280
needs.
And I think that that also is

211
00:14:35,280 --> 00:14:38,600
the Spirit guiding you to see
the things you need to

212
00:14:38,600 --> 00:14:44,480
understand and know as you read.
100% that is such a great point.

213
00:14:45,880 --> 00:14:50,000
You know, everything we do in
Mormonism, I do believe requires

214
00:14:50,000 --> 00:14:52,840
a certain level of revelation
for the most part, right?

215
00:14:52,840 --> 00:14:56,680
Anytime you're dealing with this
spiritual things, I think we

216
00:14:56,680 --> 00:15:02,280
definitely need that and to to
kind of go along with with that.

217
00:15:03,640 --> 00:15:06,440
There's a quote and I can't
remember who who quoted it.

218
00:15:06,440 --> 00:15:08,720
It was an early church leader,
if I'm not mistaken.

219
00:15:09,440 --> 00:15:13,600
But they said the revelation was
received by endowment by excuse

220
00:15:13,600 --> 00:15:16,640
me, the endowment was received
by revelation.

221
00:15:16,680 --> 00:15:20,680
Excuse me.
And to in order to understand

222
00:15:20,680 --> 00:15:23,600
the endowment, you need
Revelation as well.

223
00:15:25,320 --> 00:15:29,520
And I, I can't agree with you
more that the word of God that

224
00:15:29,520 --> 00:15:34,400
we get through revelation and
the Scriptures is a pretty rock

225
00:15:34,400 --> 00:15:37,320
solid weapon, if you will, in
this armor.

226
00:15:38,240 --> 00:15:44,760
But revelation is tricky, right?
It's, you know, sometimes

227
00:15:44,760 --> 00:15:47,720
revelation comes to us when we
don't do anything at all.

228
00:15:47,720 --> 00:15:51,520
And usually that happens when
the Lord needs us to really do

229
00:15:51,520 --> 00:15:53,960
something, right?
These are usually emergency kind

230
00:15:53,960 --> 00:15:59,160
of situations, but most of the
time we've got to do some work

231
00:15:59,840 --> 00:16:03,520
to get into that frame of mind
to where we can receive that

232
00:16:03,520 --> 00:16:05,640
message that that God has for
us.

233
00:16:06,520 --> 00:16:10,440
So, Ammon, in your mind, how do
we place ourselves in the best

234
00:16:10,440 --> 00:16:14,560
position possible so that we can
receive that additional word of

235
00:16:14,560 --> 00:16:17,520
the Lord that that's found only
through revelation?

236
00:16:19,000 --> 00:16:24,520
Oh, I believe that the Spirit of
God is very sensitive to our

237
00:16:24,520 --> 00:16:31,120
condition, and if we want to
reach and receive what God wants

238
00:16:31,120 --> 00:16:35,080
us to do in this moment for His
guidance in their life, He

239
00:16:35,080 --> 00:16:38,400
requires that we be in tune by
obedience.

240
00:16:38,960 --> 00:16:44,240
So you start in the early phases
of it, you following your

241
00:16:44,240 --> 00:16:49,000
conscience, which defines right
and wrong, and as you learn it

242
00:16:49,000 --> 00:16:53,320
and obtain the gift of the Holy
Ghost and the whisperings of the

243
00:16:53,320 --> 00:16:57,840
Spirit become stronger.
It requires an obedience to that

244
00:16:58,000 --> 00:17:02,480
voice to be able to continue to
receive guidance from that

245
00:17:02,480 --> 00:17:09,480
voice, the voice of the Spirit
of God, And also fair, because

246
00:17:09,680 --> 00:17:12,680
if you're not in tune with that
voice, you won't hear it unless

247
00:17:12,680 --> 00:17:18,079
God really needs to get through
to you about something. 100% Oh,

248
00:17:18,079 --> 00:17:22,800
I think you're, you're spot on.
I've always said expecting to go

249
00:17:22,800 --> 00:17:26,200
into life and expecting to be in
a revelatory state of mind all

250
00:17:26,200 --> 00:17:29,200
the time and not doing any
preparation would be a lot like

251
00:17:29,200 --> 00:17:31,760
going out and trying to put win
a football game and not

252
00:17:31,760 --> 00:17:33,720
understanding the playbook,
right?

253
00:17:34,720 --> 00:17:38,640
It, you're going to end up doing
a lot of silly things along the

254
00:17:38,640 --> 00:17:40,000
way, right?
You're going to you're going to

255
00:17:40,000 --> 00:17:42,440
stumble, you're going to you're
going to turn the ball over.

256
00:17:42,440 --> 00:17:45,000
You're going to do all sorts of
things that are

257
00:17:45,000 --> 00:17:47,360
counterproductive unless you
know the playbook.

258
00:17:47,720 --> 00:17:50,720
And I think half of our job
here.

259
00:17:51,240 --> 00:17:54,920
Look, when we boil everything
down, Ammon, do we know who wins

260
00:17:54,920 --> 00:17:58,360
in the end of all this?
Yeah, God wins, right?

261
00:17:58,360 --> 00:18:01,200
God, God, God and his Saints
win.

262
00:18:02,240 --> 00:18:04,440
So we that's not in question,
right?

263
00:18:05,200 --> 00:18:08,600
What is in question is are we
going to be on the winning team,

264
00:18:09,400 --> 00:18:12,280
right?
That's, that's our job is to to

265
00:18:12,280 --> 00:18:15,040
figure out if, if we want to be
on the winning team.

266
00:18:15,440 --> 00:18:18,040
And then if we do what it is, we
can contribute.

267
00:18:18,600 --> 00:18:22,600
And in order to contribute, that
takes some revelation, that

268
00:18:22,600 --> 00:18:25,320
takes some of that Word of God
that that's going to come to you

269
00:18:27,720 --> 00:18:30,600
individually.
And you have to be able to put

270
00:18:30,600 --> 00:18:34,280
yourself into such a place that
you can receive revelation

271
00:18:34,280 --> 00:18:36,880
anytime you need it.
And look, just for

272
00:18:36,880 --> 00:18:39,520
clarification, I think anybody
who knows me gets it.

273
00:18:39,880 --> 00:18:42,280
I'm not that guy.
I'm not saying I got that

274
00:18:42,280 --> 00:18:44,920
figured out by any stretch of
the imagination.

275
00:18:46,160 --> 00:18:48,920
I look at Peter and he gives me
hope because every once in a

276
00:18:48,920 --> 00:18:53,440
while I find myself say now
church going, I am not going to

277
00:18:53,440 --> 00:18:58,040
mess up today.
And then I make it exactly 22

278
00:18:58,040 --> 00:19:00,640
minutes and I've already messed
up again.

279
00:19:01,040 --> 00:19:07,120
And so this is a, a work that
that like any sort of thing that

280
00:19:07,120 --> 00:19:09,760
you got to get good at, you're
going to have to do some

281
00:19:09,760 --> 00:19:12,240
practice with it, right?
Right.

282
00:19:12,240 --> 00:19:14,640
Oh, certainly.
I'm somebody that has a lot, a

283
00:19:14,640 --> 00:19:18,440
lot to learn on this.
And I'm really grateful that

284
00:19:18,720 --> 00:19:22,720
this is the subject you asked me
to discuss because this gets me

285
00:19:22,720 --> 00:19:26,160
deep diving deep into this.
And I believe this is one of the

286
00:19:26,160 --> 00:19:29,680
most important subjects in the
gospel to learn.

287
00:19:31,600 --> 00:19:34,800
It, it is.
And, and because, as you said,

288
00:19:34,800 --> 00:19:38,400
the sense, the, the spirit is
very sensitive to who we are,

289
00:19:38,520 --> 00:19:41,320
right?
And if we're not where, where we

290
00:19:41,320 --> 00:19:45,200
should be, if we're not doing
what we should be, sometimes

291
00:19:45,200 --> 00:19:50,400
that spirit leaves, right?
It's, it's not going to like,

292
00:19:50,480 --> 00:19:53,400
like I've always said this,
sometimes you, you in life,

293
00:19:53,400 --> 00:19:57,520
you've got to go into some
horrible places for whatever

294
00:19:57,520 --> 00:19:59,920
reason.
That's just part of life.

295
00:19:59,920 --> 00:20:01,880
You can still have the spirit
with you there.

296
00:20:02,200 --> 00:20:05,240
Now, if you're going to the
horrible place for enjoyment,

297
00:20:05,640 --> 00:20:08,520
well, I think you can bank on
that spirit not hanging around

298
00:20:08,520 --> 00:20:10,200
too terribly long.
You're going to.

299
00:20:10,640 --> 00:20:15,480
You know, it's, it's one thing
if you're, if you're going into

300
00:20:15,480 --> 00:20:18,280
a bar to rescue somebody, it's
another thing if you're going in

301
00:20:19,200 --> 00:20:22,640
just to start throwing a ton
back and get inebriated, right?

302
00:20:22,960 --> 00:20:25,520
Like there's a huge difference
in your intent.

303
00:20:25,920 --> 00:20:28,120
So I, I, I couldn't agree with
you more.

304
00:20:28,120 --> 00:20:31,560
It's going to take practice.
And I've said this too,

305
00:20:31,560 --> 00:20:34,400
revelation usually comes by the
spirit, right?

306
00:20:34,840 --> 00:20:41,000
Very rarely do we see the kind
of Joseph Smith first vision

307
00:20:41,000 --> 00:20:43,520
kind of things.
It's not unheard of, but it's

308
00:20:43,520 --> 00:20:47,240
rare.
Often it, it usually comes in a

309
00:20:47,360 --> 00:20:52,120
that still small voice.
And so we need to it.

310
00:20:52,120 --> 00:20:55,360
It's almost like I remember when
I became a Mormon, it was like

311
00:20:55,360 --> 00:20:57,200
learning to speak a different
language.

312
00:20:59,080 --> 00:21:02,760
And we got to we, we got to
really get familiar with that

313
00:21:02,760 --> 00:21:04,480
language so we could be fluent
at it.

314
00:21:06,880 --> 00:21:09,760
Right.
And I think a really good place

315
00:21:09,760 --> 00:21:15,480
that points this out, a place to
start is described in Moroni 7,

316
00:21:16,240 --> 00:21:23,360
where Moroni discusses or Mormon
discusses how you know what

317
00:21:23,360 --> 00:21:27,720
comes from God.
So if he starts here, verse 12

318
00:21:28,440 --> 00:21:31,040
and we'll we can just read and
discuss this as we go.

319
00:21:34,280 --> 00:21:39,240
Wherefore all things which are
good cometh of God, that which

320
00:21:39,240 --> 00:21:42,720
is evil cometh of the devil.
For the devil is an enemy unto

321
00:21:42,720 --> 00:21:46,560
God, and fighteth against him
continually, and invite us, and

322
00:21:46,560 --> 00:21:50,080
enticeeth to sin, and to do that
which is evil continually.

323
00:21:51,040 --> 00:21:54,240
But behold, that which is of God
invite us, and enticeeth to do

324
00:21:54,240 --> 00:21:57,320
good continually.
Wherefore everything which

325
00:21:57,320 --> 00:22:02,240
inviteeth and entice to do good,
and to love God, and to serve

326
00:22:02,240 --> 00:22:06,440
him, is inspired of God.
So he directly makes that

327
00:22:07,000 --> 00:22:10,120
connection there.
If it invites and entices you to

328
00:22:10,120 --> 00:22:14,520
God, to serve God, to love God,
it is inspired of Him.

329
00:22:14,520 --> 00:22:17,000
It's not going to be from the
other source.

330
00:22:19,280 --> 00:22:20,120
Good point.
Yeah.

331
00:22:20,120 --> 00:22:26,000
So basically, if it's probably a
good rule of thumb, right, if

332
00:22:26,000 --> 00:22:29,280
you were receiving messages that
said you should just walk up and

333
00:22:29,280 --> 00:22:32,480
throat punch somebody, you might
want to rethink that one.

334
00:22:32,480 --> 00:22:35,080
Right, That one.
'S definitely not that one's.

335
00:22:35,080 --> 00:22:37,120
Definitely not coming from the
right source.

336
00:22:37,600 --> 00:22:41,640
So you want stuff that's going
to attract you to try to be

337
00:22:41,640 --> 00:22:44,000
better, right?
Kind of inspire you even a

338
00:22:44,000 --> 00:22:47,440
little bit.
Yeah, and I'll continue.

339
00:22:48,000 --> 00:22:50,720
Wherefore take heed, my beloved
brother, and that you do not

340
00:22:50,720 --> 00:22:55,440
judge that which is evil to be
of God, or that which is of good

341
00:22:55,840 --> 00:22:59,760
and of God to be of the devil.
Or behold, my brother, and it

342
00:22:59,760 --> 00:23:02,800
was given unto you to judge that
you may know good from evil.

343
00:23:03,400 --> 00:23:06,720
And the way to judge is as plain
that you may know with the

344
00:23:06,720 --> 00:23:09,640
perfect knowledge as the
daylight is from The Dark

345
00:23:09,640 --> 00:23:12,720
Knight.
So he he basically covered the

346
00:23:12,720 --> 00:23:15,240
same ground.
You just said don't judge

347
00:23:15,240 --> 00:23:18,560
something that is evil and say
it's coming from God or

348
00:23:18,560 --> 00:23:20,800
something coming from God and
saying it's from the devil.

349
00:23:22,280 --> 00:23:25,120
Can we can we discuss that for
just a few more minutes, Salmon?

350
00:23:25,920 --> 00:23:29,200
Yes.
I think we live in a day today,

351
00:23:29,200 --> 00:23:36,280
in a day and age now where
that's exactly what we're seeing

352
00:23:36,280 --> 00:23:40,240
where people are calling what is
evil good and what is good evil.

353
00:23:40,360 --> 00:23:44,040
It's it's absolutely been been
flipped on his head.

354
00:23:45,160 --> 00:23:49,280
And so my question is, how do
people get to that point?

355
00:23:49,640 --> 00:23:51,720
Right?
And the reason I want to talk

356
00:23:51,720 --> 00:23:58,560
about this is that this is
really kind of, I, I won't say

357
00:23:58,560 --> 00:24:05,000
complex, but it's definitely
wrought with some, or fraught

358
00:24:05,000 --> 00:24:08,880
with some, some pitfalls and
some, some traps.

359
00:24:09,600 --> 00:24:13,320
But in Mormonism, when we're
first learning about the gospel,

360
00:24:13,880 --> 00:24:19,720
typically you're taken to Moroni
and he's going to tell you, if

361
00:24:19,720 --> 00:24:24,720
you pray about these things with
an honest intent, I will cause

362
00:24:24,920 --> 00:24:28,560
your, your, the burning of the
bosom to happen and you'll know.

363
00:24:28,960 --> 00:24:32,280
And so it's very feeling based,
right?

364
00:24:34,240 --> 00:24:41,840
However, we can feel good, we
can have feelings that we

365
00:24:41,840 --> 00:24:45,320
identify as good that maybe
aren't right.

366
00:24:45,720 --> 00:24:50,800
And, and this I saw a lot when I
went so back in 2017, I tore my

367
00:24:50,800 --> 00:24:56,760
ACL and that pretty much signed
sidelined you as a surveyor out

368
00:24:56,760 --> 00:24:58,200
in the field.
Right now.

369
00:24:58,200 --> 00:25:01,280
It's about a 50% in the office,
50% in the field.

370
00:25:02,080 --> 00:25:05,080
And so I just said, OK, well,
I'll just do office work while I

371
00:25:05,080 --> 00:25:07,920
rehab and after my, after my
surgery.

372
00:25:08,560 --> 00:25:11,360
So I started doing that.
And then I started to frustrate

373
00:25:11,360 --> 00:25:14,680
my boss because I was calling
him every like twice a day going

374
00:25:14,680 --> 00:25:16,120
what else she got for me to work
on.

375
00:25:16,720 --> 00:25:19,120
And so finally he's like, look,
this, this is what I'm going to

376
00:25:19,120 --> 00:25:20,640
do.
I'm going to go back to school.

377
00:25:20,640 --> 00:25:22,440
I'm going to pay for you to go
back to school.

378
00:25:22,720 --> 00:25:26,000
Take anything you want, but
don't call me anymore, right?

379
00:25:26,120 --> 00:25:30,720
Not until you're not, not until
you're until your rehab is done.

380
00:25:30,720 --> 00:25:34,240
Don't call me anymore.
I'm like, OK, so I went in and I

381
00:25:34,240 --> 00:25:37,400
took a bunch of courses, mainly
on, you know, history,

382
00:25:37,680 --> 00:25:41,000
constitutional studies.
But while I was there, like

383
00:25:41,240 --> 00:25:44,040
there was a large age gap,
obviously for, you know, I was a

384
00:25:44,040 --> 00:25:48,920
non traditional student.
So we had a lot of kids in there

385
00:25:49,440 --> 00:25:52,560
and I was kind of the old man in
a lot of my classes, right?

386
00:25:53,360 --> 00:26:00,120
And one day we, we had kind of
this group project and we had

387
00:26:00,120 --> 00:26:03,320
got talking about what was going
on in the news and that sort of

388
00:26:03,320 --> 00:26:08,040
thing.
And eventually the trans issue

389
00:26:08,040 --> 00:26:12,480
comes up, right?
And there was this one, one

390
00:26:12,480 --> 00:26:17,160
young woman who was a devout LDS
person.

391
00:26:17,160 --> 00:26:18,840
I'm, I'm not even going to
question that.

392
00:26:18,840 --> 00:26:21,560
You know, I saw her going to
seminary.

393
00:26:21,560 --> 00:26:24,040
I saw her reading her scriptures
on the brakes, right?

394
00:26:24,040 --> 00:26:28,880
I mean, like she had all the
marks, but yet she was in firmly

395
00:26:28,880 --> 00:26:35,920
in this camp of we need to make
more room for trans ideology and

396
00:26:35,920 --> 00:26:37,560
Mormonism and this sort of
thing.

397
00:26:37,560 --> 00:26:40,040
And I thought, OK, now this is
interesting because we got 2

398
00:26:40,040 --> 00:26:42,240
dichotomies here that are
working against each other.

399
00:26:43,080 --> 00:26:47,280
And so I thought like this was
long before I thought about

400
00:26:47,280 --> 00:26:49,800
starting a podcast.
But I do wish I had the audio on

401
00:26:49,800 --> 00:26:51,760
that because it was a
fascinating conversation.

402
00:26:53,600 --> 00:26:55,760
And I said, OK, how do you get
there?

403
00:26:55,880 --> 00:26:58,520
Right?
I'm not, I'm not judging you.

404
00:26:59,960 --> 00:27:02,200
I want to know how you get
there, right?

405
00:27:02,200 --> 00:27:05,120
Knowing what you know from the
scriptures, from the things that

406
00:27:05,560 --> 00:27:09,200
you know, certain men who've
been leadership in the LDS

407
00:27:09,200 --> 00:27:11,680
Church have said that this is
wrong.

408
00:27:11,680 --> 00:27:15,920
How do you get there?
And she said, well, I just do

409
00:27:15,920 --> 00:27:17,560
what I did about the Book of
Mormon.

410
00:27:17,560 --> 00:27:19,880
I pray about it.
And if I get a good feeling,

411
00:27:20,080 --> 00:27:23,920
it's got to be right.
And I was like, OK, now this is

412
00:27:23,920 --> 00:27:28,000
interesting, right?
And I said, so it made you feel

413
00:27:28,000 --> 00:27:30,080
good.
And she said, yeah, it made me

414
00:27:30,080 --> 00:27:33,120
feel inclusive.
It made me feel warm and loving.

415
00:27:33,560 --> 00:27:38,400
And I thought, OK, this is where
you do need the Canon of

416
00:27:38,400 --> 00:27:41,720
Scripture in addition to the
Word of God, because just like

417
00:27:41,720 --> 00:27:47,040
the Word of God can clarify
scriptures, if we rely solely on

418
00:27:47,040 --> 00:27:52,440
feelings, we can be duped.
So how do we parse that out,

419
00:27:52,440 --> 00:27:53,680
Ammon?
I mean, what what's your

420
00:27:53,680 --> 00:27:57,520
thoughts on how do we make sure
that what we're getting that

421
00:27:57,520 --> 00:28:02,520
makes us feel good is actually
from God?

422
00:28:02,600 --> 00:28:04,520
Does that make sense?
Does the question make sense

423
00:28:04,520 --> 00:28:06,960
here?
Yeah, it doesn't and you explain

424
00:28:06,960 --> 00:28:09,560
it right.
If we just went off feelings

425
00:28:09,560 --> 00:28:13,560
what we felt good about, we
could find ourselves pretty far

426
00:28:13,560 --> 00:28:17,760
off in left field on a lot of
issues.

427
00:28:18,000 --> 00:28:23,520
And I think that's where he's
speaking here in Moroni is that

428
00:28:23,520 --> 00:28:27,080
which entice the good is from
God, that which is evil is from

429
00:28:27,080 --> 00:28:29,360
the devil.
And there's just there's not a

430
00:28:29,360 --> 00:28:32,120
switch in there that you can
just say, well, it felt good, so

431
00:28:32,120 --> 00:28:35,720
it must be from God.
He in Scripture gives direct

432
00:28:35,720 --> 00:28:38,640
commandments on a lot of things,
which includes all the very

433
00:28:38,640 --> 00:28:42,240
issues you brought up that
plainly point those out as

434
00:28:42,240 --> 00:28:44,440
wrong.
And we're not going to get a

435
00:28:44,440 --> 00:28:48,200
revelation to ourselves that
tells us the opposite of that.

436
00:28:50,400 --> 00:28:53,560
That's going to be the evil
powers trying to work in their

437
00:28:53,560 --> 00:28:56,280
thing because they entice the do
evil continually.

438
00:28:56,840 --> 00:29:00,440
And I, I think that it becomes
important to understand the

439
00:29:00,440 --> 00:29:04,600
difference in the voices you
hear in your, in your head,

440
00:29:04,600 --> 00:29:09,240
because maybe you have heard a
lot of young people, especially

441
00:29:09,240 --> 00:29:11,960
they, they hear about, oh, we
just need to love everyone no

442
00:29:11,960 --> 00:29:14,760
matter their choices and all
that stuff.

443
00:29:15,560 --> 00:29:17,360
And it becomes confusing to
them.

444
00:29:18,040 --> 00:29:20,680
And so they they think they're
applying this love of God for

445
00:29:20,720 --> 00:29:25,080
someone and supporting them in
something like the trans stop or

446
00:29:25,080 --> 00:29:28,000
something like that.
When it's in direct opposition

447
00:29:28,000 --> 00:29:30,560
to the laws of God, the laws of
life.

448
00:29:33,280 --> 00:29:38,200
And that's where, you know, the
thing that enticed or prompted

449
00:29:38,200 --> 00:29:41,240
someone to think that was OK, it
wasn't from God because it was

450
00:29:41,240 --> 00:29:44,800
in opposition to His laws that
He's laid out here in the

451
00:29:44,800 --> 00:29:47,920
Scriptures.
You know, it's almost like the

452
00:29:47,920 --> 00:29:52,760
Lord is using the law of
witnesses, even even in, in, in

453
00:29:52,760 --> 00:29:56,360
obtaining his word, right?
Like we can, we can get the

454
00:29:56,360 --> 00:30:00,160
message through revelation.
We can see how it stacks up with

455
00:30:00,520 --> 00:30:03,000
revealed revelation, which is
the scriptures.

456
00:30:03,480 --> 00:30:07,760
And if they're not in harmony, I
feel like that's a good, a good

457
00:30:07,760 --> 00:30:12,360
key to throw that out right to,
to to really re examine closely

458
00:30:12,360 --> 00:30:15,560
what that revelation was,
because so much of revelation

459
00:30:15,560 --> 00:30:19,760
works off of just how you feel.
And it's important to be able to

460
00:30:19,760 --> 00:30:23,280
parse out how you feel versus
what a real message is.

461
00:30:23,280 --> 00:30:26,760
And I think I think the Canon of
scripture can can lend support

462
00:30:26,760 --> 00:30:29,880
there.
Exactly.

463
00:30:31,800 --> 00:30:33,760
All right, I'll read.
I'll read another verse here.

464
00:30:34,200 --> 00:30:37,400
Yeah, so he affirms a different
verse we read earlier.

465
00:30:37,760 --> 00:30:41,360
Behold, the Spirit of Christ is
given to every man, that he may

466
00:30:41,360 --> 00:30:44,920
know good from evil.
Wherefore I show unto you the

467
00:30:44,920 --> 00:30:47,560
way to judge.
For everything which inviteth to

468
00:30:47,560 --> 00:30:52,360
do good, and to persuade to
believe in Christ, is sent forth

469
00:30:52,360 --> 00:30:54,760
by the beget power and gift of
Christ.

470
00:30:55,400 --> 00:30:58,440
Wherefore ye may know with a
perfect knowledge it is of God.

471
00:31:00,640 --> 00:31:04,680
But whatsoever thing persuadeth
men to do evil, and believe not

472
00:31:04,680 --> 00:31:09,520
in Christ, and deny him, and
serve not God, then you may

473
00:31:09,520 --> 00:31:11,960
knoweth a perfect knowledge it
is of the devil.

474
00:31:12,480 --> 00:31:14,520
For after this manner doth the
devil work.

475
00:31:15,400 --> 00:31:21,520
For he persuadeth no man to do
good, no, not one, neither do

476
00:31:21,520 --> 00:31:25,600
his angels, neither do they who
subject themselves unto him.

477
00:31:27,160 --> 00:31:29,880
And now my brethren, seeing that
you know the light by which you

478
00:31:29,880 --> 00:31:34,160
may judge, which light is the
light of Christ, be that you do

479
00:31:34,160 --> 00:31:37,560
not judge wrongfully or with
that same judgement which ye

480
00:31:37,560 --> 00:31:42,280
judge, ye shall also be judged.
So he mentions it in there

481
00:31:42,280 --> 00:31:44,440
several times.
Don't judge wrongfully.

482
00:31:44,440 --> 00:31:49,800
Don't call evil good and good
evil, because Satan is never

483
00:31:49,800 --> 00:31:52,640
going to try to encourage you to
do good.

484
00:31:53,960 --> 00:31:57,760
He he might put on a show of it.
And I think some of these issues

485
00:31:57,840 --> 00:32:01,360
in our day that have become good
called evil and evil called good

486
00:32:01,360 --> 00:32:07,880
is that Satan trying to take one
point in scriptures, which

487
00:32:07,880 --> 00:32:13,360
generally is love, this love of
God and apply it against God,

488
00:32:13,880 --> 00:32:20,160
use it against God. 100 percent,
100%.

489
00:32:20,400 --> 00:32:24,080
You know, I think this goes to
to what we see in Moses after he

490
00:32:24,080 --> 00:32:29,040
has his encounter with the Lord
and then Satan shows up.

491
00:32:29,640 --> 00:32:33,720
But Satan like and and this is
what I've tried to tell people

492
00:32:33,720 --> 00:32:38,480
is that Satan's not going to
come and just show up and be the

493
00:32:38,480 --> 00:32:42,680
scariest looking dude in the
room right that that gives it

494
00:32:42,680 --> 00:32:50,800
away and for the father of lies.
That would be just it would be

495
00:32:50,800 --> 00:32:52,840
shooting yourself in the foot.
It makes no sense.

496
00:32:53,200 --> 00:32:55,400
He shows up to Moses as an Angel
of light.

497
00:32:56,640 --> 00:33:01,360
And likewise, we can expect some
of our own temptations when

498
00:33:01,360 --> 00:33:03,200
we're starting to choose good
from evil.

499
00:33:04,280 --> 00:33:06,640
It's going to feel like that a
little bit and it's going to be

500
00:33:06,640 --> 00:33:08,640
super important.
I think This is why the

501
00:33:08,640 --> 00:33:15,120
scriptures and Revelation are so
important today, because quite

502
00:33:15,120 --> 00:33:18,480
frankly, we're just going to
need them because the messages

503
00:33:18,480 --> 00:33:21,920
will, can continue to get more
convoluted.

504
00:33:21,920 --> 00:33:24,280
And we're going to, it's only
going to be through revelation

505
00:33:24,280 --> 00:33:26,800
in the scriptures that we're
going to be able to navigate

506
00:33:26,800 --> 00:33:28,520
things.
So I I agree.

507
00:33:31,200 --> 00:33:34,960
Certainly.
And, and I think that's the

508
00:33:34,960 --> 00:33:39,040
thing that's so important is to
learn to, to distinguish what

509
00:33:39,040 --> 00:33:41,280
those different voices are
trying to tell you to do.

510
00:33:42,040 --> 00:33:45,240
Often as you learn revelation,
you have more than just the

511
00:33:45,240 --> 00:33:49,160
feeling right You you begin to
hear the message too.

512
00:33:50,800 --> 00:33:55,400
And pardon my girl.
No, you're good.

513
00:33:55,640 --> 00:33:56,520
You're.
Just fine.

514
00:33:59,200 --> 00:34:03,600
Often the when the Spirit of God
tells us to do something, it's

515
00:34:03,600 --> 00:34:07,080
not exactly what we expected to
be doing or wanted to be doing.

516
00:34:07,400 --> 00:34:12,400
Often it's different.
Said that I was like like

517
00:34:12,400 --> 00:34:18,639
starting a podcast.
No, that's, that's a true thing

518
00:34:18,639 --> 00:34:20,800
too.
I've I've always said if.

519
00:34:21,440 --> 00:34:24,600
In fact, I think I said it in
one of the other episodes if

520
00:34:25,679 --> 00:34:31,639
like sometimes it it is as easy
as does this feel too, too much

521
00:34:31,639 --> 00:34:35,719
like what I want, right, like if
the Lord ever, you know, gave me

522
00:34:35,719 --> 00:34:38,159
a message of you know what,
Dave, just retire to the

523
00:34:38,159 --> 00:34:42,199
Caribbean, kick your feet up by
the beach, watch the waves come

524
00:34:42,199 --> 00:34:44,440
in and out and you can finish
life off there.

525
00:34:44,760 --> 00:34:47,600
I'm going to get real
suspicious, right?

526
00:34:47,639 --> 00:34:49,000
It's at that.
Point I'm going to be like.

527
00:34:49,320 --> 00:34:52,400
I don't think that's the Lord
because that's not usually what

528
00:34:52,400 --> 00:34:56,679
He has me doing.
Right, right.

529
00:34:56,679 --> 00:35:02,160
And so we have, we have three
voices, right, that we all deal

530
00:35:02,160 --> 00:35:04,480
with.
We have our own voice ourselves.

531
00:35:04,480 --> 00:35:07,160
We talk to ourselves in our mind
all the time, at least I do.

532
00:35:08,520 --> 00:35:12,280
Then we have the voice of Christ
in our heart.

533
00:35:12,720 --> 00:35:16,040
And then we have the opposition,
the evil powers.

534
00:35:16,560 --> 00:35:20,160
I don't think it's Satan himself
coming to us, trying to tempt

535
00:35:20,160 --> 00:35:24,040
us, but he has plenty of minions
to do his work for him.

536
00:35:25,280 --> 00:35:28,480
And and I feel like there's kind
of a key and we have it here in

537
00:35:28,480 --> 00:35:30,440
Morona.
He's he's encouraging us to

538
00:35:30,440 --> 00:35:33,640
learn to tell that difference
between good and evil so we can

539
00:35:33,640 --> 00:35:38,280
understand the voice of Christ
that's born into us.

540
00:35:39,400 --> 00:35:44,480
So if we if we start with
ourselves then and everyone can

541
00:35:44,480 --> 00:35:48,000
notice this when you're trying
to decide something just on your

542
00:35:48,000 --> 00:35:50,840
own.
You question I should go to the

543
00:35:50,840 --> 00:35:52,880
gym, right.
You know, you're you're trying

544
00:35:52,880 --> 00:35:54,920
to confirm to yourself what I
should do.

545
00:35:55,320 --> 00:35:59,040
I should go shopping and get
this or that should I Maybe

546
00:35:59,040 --> 00:36:03,120
it'll help me and you question
yourself with your own voice

547
00:36:04,800 --> 00:36:08,000
when you are given a direction
by the Spirit of God.

548
00:36:08,000 --> 00:36:12,760
It's often do this or do that
help this person go down the

549
00:36:12,760 --> 00:36:17,680
street, check on your neighbor,
follow up your brother and a lot

550
00:36:17,680 --> 00:36:20,120
of things like that.
It's definite this is something

551
00:36:20,120 --> 00:36:23,320
you should do and often you
don't feel like doing the thing

552
00:36:24,000 --> 00:36:26,600
it tells you to do.
I I think it often goes against

553
00:36:26,600 --> 00:36:29,320
the natural man.
Does.

554
00:36:29,760 --> 00:36:34,040
And then you have the voice of
evil that is often, you know,

555
00:36:34,040 --> 00:36:36,440
you, you don't need to get up
and say your prayers this

556
00:36:36,440 --> 00:36:37,400
morning.
You're tired.

557
00:36:37,400 --> 00:36:42,800
You, you should keep sleeping or
take that for yourself because

558
00:36:42,800 --> 00:36:44,840
you need a, you know, a lot of
things.

559
00:36:46,040 --> 00:36:50,080
It caters to our selfishness
more than anything more to be

560
00:36:50,080 --> 00:36:55,360
popular, you know, support this
movement because it's love.

561
00:36:56,040 --> 00:37:00,720
And you know, if you don't, then
everybody's going to think

562
00:37:00,720 --> 00:37:07,840
you're the odd person.
So there's a lot of ways where a

563
00:37:07,840 --> 00:37:11,280
person can tell the difference.
And I've heard, I've heard your

564
00:37:11,280 --> 00:37:15,360
different stories on the podcast
where you are prompted to do

565
00:37:15,360 --> 00:37:17,240
something.
It's like, Nah, do I really want

566
00:37:17,240 --> 00:37:18,960
to do?
Oh.

567
00:37:19,000 --> 00:37:21,400
Man, I think we can all relate
to that.

568
00:37:22,680 --> 00:37:24,000
I hope so.
I hope it's.

569
00:37:24,000 --> 00:37:26,720
Not just me.
Because there are times where

570
00:37:26,720 --> 00:37:29,840
I'm like, I don't want to do
that right?

571
00:37:29,880 --> 00:37:33,760
Like I would rather just, but
but you can tell, right?

572
00:37:33,760 --> 00:37:36,960
You to your point, you can
always tell because it's

573
00:37:36,960 --> 00:37:40,400
usually, it's usually some work,
right?

574
00:37:41,560 --> 00:37:46,240
And it's the darndest thing I'm
never I'm never mad that I did

575
00:37:46,240 --> 00:37:51,120
the work right, but boy,
sometimes get in my rear to get

576
00:37:51,120 --> 00:37:55,720
up out of the chair and go do it
is is like pulling teeth.

577
00:37:55,800 --> 00:37:57,840
And I, you know, that's
something I got to work on

578
00:37:59,280 --> 00:38:03,000
personally to be better than
what I have been is to just go

579
00:38:03,000 --> 00:38:07,720
immediately so.
Yeah, same here.

580
00:38:08,000 --> 00:38:10,920
Same here.
I've got, I'm talking here about

581
00:38:11,040 --> 00:38:16,560
this is me trying to learn what
I need to do and it and it

582
00:38:16,560 --> 00:38:22,280
reminds me when I when I was
learning the truth about the

583
00:38:22,280 --> 00:38:27,480
group, I was part of the FLDS
and trying to find out what I

584
00:38:27,480 --> 00:38:30,360
should do.
There's a lot of fear involved

585
00:38:31,040 --> 00:38:37,440
because I grew up being taught
so certainly that we were right

586
00:38:37,440 --> 00:38:40,840
and no one else was.
And if I were to change my

587
00:38:40,840 --> 00:38:45,360
thought on that, I was, you
know, I was going to be forever

588
00:38:45,360 --> 00:38:48,640
cast out to the lowest hell.
And that's pretty scary if you

589
00:38:48,640 --> 00:38:54,240
believe it anyway.
And I remember I didn't know

590
00:38:54,240 --> 00:38:56,920
what to do.
I, I didn't know if I dare to

591
00:38:56,920 --> 00:38:58,960
look into anything or ask
questions.

592
00:39:00,040 --> 00:39:03,480
And so I went out into the woods
and said my prayers about it

593
00:39:03,560 --> 00:39:10,480
and, and I told God, I said, I
want to know what's true no

594
00:39:10,480 --> 00:39:14,320
matter what, even if it means
that my father really isn't the

595
00:39:14,320 --> 00:39:17,960
prophet.
And those words came to me

596
00:39:17,960 --> 00:39:21,640
without me thinking them, You
know, when it's giving you what

597
00:39:21,640 --> 00:39:24,480
to say.
And it really, it really shook

598
00:39:24,480 --> 00:39:27,520
me and surprised me that I'd
even say something like that.

599
00:39:28,640 --> 00:39:33,000
But as soon as I got those words
out, then the Lord just opened

600
00:39:33,000 --> 00:39:37,560
up the way for me to learn the
truth and to be able to retain a

601
00:39:37,560 --> 00:39:42,320
love for the gospel as I learned
it, which is something so easy

602
00:39:42,320 --> 00:39:49,920
to lose when you come out of a
situation like that. 100% Oh and

603
00:39:52,360 --> 00:39:55,160
you feel like at that time that
you had a good idea what the

604
00:39:55,160 --> 00:40:01,800
spirit felt like.
Yes I do, and I I had to

605
00:40:01,800 --> 00:40:08,160
differentiate between tradition.
And being vulnerable enough to

606
00:40:08,160 --> 00:40:09,840
ask for an answer and receive
it.

607
00:40:11,240 --> 00:40:16,720
Oh, those are different things.
So it it and we can continue

608
00:40:16,720 --> 00:40:19,920
this only if you're comfortable.
I don't want to focus on stuff

609
00:40:19,920 --> 00:40:23,160
you don't want to focus on, but
I do feel like there might be

610
00:40:23,160 --> 00:40:25,040
some lessons here.
So if at any point you're

611
00:40:25,040 --> 00:40:27,600
uncomfortable, you just need to
tell me, Dave, shut the pie hole

612
00:40:28,000 --> 00:40:32,240
and we'll move on.
But so as as you're doing that

613
00:40:33,920 --> 00:40:38,320
right, I can only imagine that
the scriptures were a great help

614
00:40:38,320 --> 00:40:41,960
in that point, right?
Because you could kind of take

615
00:40:41,960 --> 00:40:44,840
the scriptures and go, OK, what
do we really got going on here

616
00:40:44,840 --> 00:40:48,320
kind of an AB comparison.
Is that is that a fair

617
00:40:48,320 --> 00:40:50,040
assumption or was that not the
case?

618
00:40:50,480 --> 00:40:52,200
Yeah, there was certain things I
read.

619
00:40:52,200 --> 00:40:55,880
So I, I, after I said those
prayers, you know, I learned

620
00:40:55,880 --> 00:41:01,440
that he had molested some of my
siblings and other people too.

621
00:41:02,600 --> 00:41:10,600
And I actually have someone that
I looked up to say to me for a

622
00:41:10,600 --> 00:41:15,360
man to be exalted, he's got to
sin almost beyond redemption and

623
00:41:16,320 --> 00:41:19,280
then be forgiven.
And that was their justification

624
00:41:19,280 --> 00:41:24,080
of what he did.
So I, I, you know, that that did

625
00:41:24,080 --> 00:41:27,720
not feel right to me.
So I was like, well, what did

626
00:41:27,720 --> 00:41:32,280
Jesus say about this situation?
And I looked it, looked it up

627
00:41:32,280 --> 00:41:36,640
and it was that quote that he
says if anyone offends one of

628
00:41:36,640 --> 00:41:38,960
these little ones that believe
on me, it'd be better than a

629
00:41:38,960 --> 00:41:42,320
millstone or cast put around his
neck and him cast into the sea.

630
00:41:42,320 --> 00:41:46,680
And that was like a answer.
You know, I'd read that 10 times

631
00:41:46,680 --> 00:41:51,200
before and not seen that.
And it was my answer to that

632
00:41:51,200 --> 00:41:53,320
question.
That's what Jesus thought about.

633
00:41:53,320 --> 00:41:57,120
That's that situation.
He didn't say you shall sin

634
00:41:58,160 --> 00:42:02,960
almost the day of grace away and
then repent and be exalted.

635
00:42:03,080 --> 00:42:05,280
He said, if you're if you're
committing these certain sins,

636
00:42:05,280 --> 00:42:08,080
you're out.
This is what I feel like about

637
00:42:08,120 --> 00:42:13,880
you.
And then then I because he had

638
00:42:13,880 --> 00:42:16,960
commanded us to not get married,
right?

639
00:42:18,040 --> 00:42:21,880
And he had started telling
people to not eat meat.

640
00:42:23,040 --> 00:42:29,200
And so I was, as I prayed about
this, I, I opened up Timothy and

641
00:42:29,200 --> 00:42:33,560
he, there's a version there in
Timothy that says the false

642
00:42:33,560 --> 00:42:39,640
prophets would arise in the last
days commanding men to not marry

643
00:42:40,200 --> 00:42:43,120
and not eat meat.
And that was another thing that

644
00:42:43,360 --> 00:42:48,840
just get me in the face, like
really shocked me.

645
00:42:49,840 --> 00:42:53,600
OK, Ammon, Ammon, Ammon giggle a
little bit because Ammon saw me

646
00:42:53,600 --> 00:42:56,520
because I'm not going to lie
when it said if any man tells

647
00:42:56,520 --> 00:42:58,360
you not to eat me, he's a false
prophet.

648
00:42:58,800 --> 00:43:03,360
I was like, oh, yeah, like
anyone says I shouldn't eat

649
00:43:03,360 --> 00:43:05,720
steak.
Yeah, I dismiss you, Sir, as a

650
00:43:05,720 --> 00:43:09,120
false prophet.
But no, you're you're 100%

651
00:43:09,120 --> 00:43:12,840
correct that you had you had the
scriptures there that helped you

652
00:43:12,840 --> 00:43:17,840
tremendously.
And what's what's fascinating is

653
00:43:17,840 --> 00:43:23,440
that Jesus does the same thing.
If we look at Matthew Chapter 11

654
00:43:24,800 --> 00:43:26,960
or is it 4?
I think it's Matthew 4.

655
00:43:27,440 --> 00:43:29,120
Pardon me.
One through 11.

656
00:43:29,120 --> 00:43:30,920
Yeah.
It's when when he's being

657
00:43:30,920 --> 00:43:32,720
tempted in the in the
wilderness.

658
00:43:32,720 --> 00:43:36,080
And do you are you OK?
I don't want to mess up your

659
00:43:36,080 --> 00:43:37,840
flow.
Are you OK if I jump in here and

660
00:43:37,840 --> 00:43:40,440
read this just real quick?
Yes, absolutely.

661
00:43:41,680 --> 00:43:44,680
So this is Matthew 4.
I believe it's versus one

662
00:43:44,680 --> 00:43:49,800
through 11.
And then Jesus LED up of the

663
00:43:49,800 --> 00:43:52,320
Spirit into the wilderness to be
tempted of the devil.

664
00:43:52,640 --> 00:43:55,960
And when he had fasted 40 days
and 40 nights, he was afterwards

665
00:43:56,080 --> 00:43:58,480
hungered.
And when the tempter came to

666
00:43:58,480 --> 00:44:02,840
him, he said, If thou be the Son
of God, command these stones to

667
00:44:02,840 --> 00:44:06,960
be made bread.
And he being Jesus, answered and

668
00:44:06,960 --> 00:44:10,400
said, It is written, Man shall
not live by bread alone, but

669
00:44:10,480 --> 00:44:13,440
every word that proceedeth from
the mouth of God.

670
00:44:14,920 --> 00:44:17,080
In verse 5.
And then the devil taketh him up

671
00:44:17,080 --> 00:44:19,800
into the holy city, and setteth
him upon the pinnacle of the

672
00:44:19,800 --> 00:44:23,400
temple, and sayeth unto him, If
thou be the Son of God, cast

673
00:44:23,400 --> 00:44:25,320
thyself down.
For it is written, He shall give

674
00:44:25,320 --> 00:44:28,560
thee his angels charge
concerning thee, and in their

675
00:44:28,560 --> 00:44:33,560
hands they shall bear thee up,
lest at any time thou dash thy

676
00:44:33,560 --> 00:44:37,360
foot against the stone.
And then Jesus said unto him, It

677
00:44:37,360 --> 00:44:39,960
is written, that thou shalt not
tempt the Lord thy God.

678
00:44:40,720 --> 00:44:43,800
And again the devil taketh him
up into an exceedingly high

679
00:44:43,800 --> 00:44:47,040
mountain, and showeth him all
the kingdoms of the world, and

680
00:44:47,040 --> 00:44:51,080
the glory of them, and saith
unto him, All these things will

681
00:44:51,080 --> 00:44:53,880
I give thee, if that will fall
down and worship me.

682
00:44:54,120 --> 00:44:57,440
And then Jesus answered him,
saying, Get behind thee, Satan.

683
00:44:57,760 --> 00:45:01,200
For it is written, Thou shalt
worship the Lord thy God, and

684
00:45:01,200 --> 00:45:04,920
him only shalt thy serve.
Then the devil leaveth him, and

685
00:45:04,920 --> 00:45:07,560
behold, angels came and
ministered unto him.

686
00:45:08,560 --> 00:45:13,520
So here we have the Savior at
his weakest point that I could

687
00:45:13,640 --> 00:45:17,440
imagine, fasting 40 days and 40
nights, right?

688
00:45:17,680 --> 00:45:20,080
He's out there in the desert.
He is hungry.

689
00:45:20,560 --> 00:45:23,800
He's still mortal, right?
I think that's important to

690
00:45:23,800 --> 00:45:26,560
know.
He does have some of the same,

691
00:45:28,480 --> 00:45:33,040
excuse me, some of the same
abilities that his father gave

692
00:45:33,040 --> 00:45:36,920
him, but he is still half human.
And so he feels that hunger.

693
00:45:37,120 --> 00:45:40,120
He feels that anguish of, of
thirst.

694
00:45:41,040 --> 00:45:46,040
And then the devil shows up and
then he's like, OK, if you're so

695
00:45:46,040 --> 00:45:49,920
hungry, you're the Messiah.
Just ask these breads to be made

696
00:45:49,920 --> 00:45:53,720
stone.
And Jesus uses, I believe that

697
00:45:53,720 --> 00:45:57,320
one was out of Deuteronomy.
He uses Deuteronomy to repel

698
00:45:57,360 --> 00:45:59,320
that.
Then he uses the 10

699
00:45:59,320 --> 00:46:01,720
commandments, and I think he
uses Deuteronomy again in the

700
00:46:01,720 --> 00:46:04,160
final one.
So if it's good enough for the

701
00:46:04,160 --> 00:46:07,240
Savior of the world, I think
it's probably good enough for

702
00:46:07,240 --> 00:46:09,080
us, right?
That we can.

703
00:46:09,960 --> 00:46:13,760
We can absolutely use Scripture
in this kind of spiritual

704
00:46:13,760 --> 00:46:18,280
warfare we got going right now.
Few months back, Justin Frankham

705
00:46:18,280 --> 00:46:20,520
had an idea to make learning
about the fullness of the

706
00:46:20,520 --> 00:46:24,000
restored gospel a lot easier.
It was an idea that once I had

707
00:46:24,000 --> 00:46:26,640
my mind wrapped around it, I
felt like it could do a lot of

708
00:46:26,640 --> 00:46:29,000
good.
Mormon Legacy Ministries is a

709
00:46:29,000 --> 00:46:32,400
multi denominational ministering
effort to provide a safe landing

710
00:46:32,400 --> 00:46:35,680
place for Mormons to land until
they find their forever church

711
00:46:35,680 --> 00:46:38,880
home, while at the same time
offering folks an opportunity

712
00:46:38,880 --> 00:46:41,480
for worship and fellowship.
Here's a little bit of what

713
00:46:41,480 --> 00:46:43,800
Mormon Legacy Ministries is
offering.

714
00:46:44,760 --> 00:46:48,280

the month at 3:00 PM Mountain

715
00:46:48,280 --> 00:46:51,000
Standard Time, a sacrament
meeting is conducted by Joshua

716
00:46:51,000 --> 00:46:53,680
Erickson.
Every Thursday at 6:00 PM

717
00:46:53,680 --> 00:46:57,280
Mountain Standard Time is the
Gospel Fundamentals class hosted

718
00:46:57,280 --> 00:46:59,760
by Elior Walker and Braxton
Bogart.

719
00:47:00,320 --> 00:47:02,280
Quarterly men's meetings are
also held.

720
00:47:02,280 --> 00:47:05,680
The next one of those will be
Saturday, February 14th at 6:00

721
00:47:05,680 --> 00:47:09,000
PM Mountain Standard Time.

to mormonlegacy.org and click on

723
00:47:12,760 --> 00:47:15,240

725
00:47:19,680 --> 00:47:22,960
6:00 PM Mountain Standard Time,
a discussion group will be held

726
00:47:22,960 --> 00:47:26,280
on the book The 5000 Year Leap
by Cleon Skousen.

727
00:47:27,160 --> 00:47:31,160
So whether you're an independent
Mormon fundamentalist, or maybe

728
00:47:31,160 --> 00:47:33,840
you're a Mormon fundamentalist
already in a group, but you want

729
00:47:33,840 --> 00:47:37,480
more opportunities to learn and
serve, or perhaps you're an LDS

730
00:47:37,480 --> 00:47:40,760
person wanting to learn more
about what your theological

731
00:47:40,760 --> 00:47:43,280
cousins believe, or maybe even
you're not a Mormon at all and

732
00:47:43,280 --> 00:47:46,600
you're just curious about the
faith, Mormon Legacy Ministries

733
00:47:46,600 --> 00:47:49,960
is the place for you where you
can go to learn all those things

734

00:47:53,080 --> 00:47:56,960
To get there, all you need to do
is go to mormonlegacy.org and

736
00:47:56,960 --> 00:48:01,240
then click any or all of those
classes that are being offered

737
00:48:01,240 --> 00:48:03,040
there.
Again, that's Mormon

738
00:48:03,040 --> 00:48:06,040
legacyministries.org.
Go there today and sign up.

739
00:48:07,360 --> 00:48:09,640
Right.
I think that that story is a

740
00:48:09,640 --> 00:48:13,600
perfect example of what he means
when he talks about the sort of

741
00:48:13,600 --> 00:48:17,760
spirit using the Word of God in
a few place.

742
00:48:17,920 --> 00:48:21,480
In a few places in there, Satan
tries to use little pieces of

743
00:48:21,480 --> 00:48:27,760
the Word of God too tempt Jesus,
and Jesus fights it by

744
00:48:27,760 --> 00:48:32,440
remembering the word of God and
being prompted what scriptures

745
00:48:32,720 --> 00:48:36,320
to use to fight that temptation
to remain humble.

746
00:48:37,040 --> 00:48:39,560
I mean, Satan was offering him a
lot of stuff, right?

747
00:48:40,520 --> 00:48:43,320
Oh yeah.
And and people are like, oh, you

748
00:48:43,320 --> 00:48:45,440
know, he's the son of God.
That couldn't have been too big

749
00:48:45,440 --> 00:48:47,400
of a temptation.
But how would we do if someone

750
00:48:47,400 --> 00:48:49,960
came and offered us all the
riches in the world?

751
00:48:50,920 --> 00:48:54,520
We just do this one little SIM,
right?

752
00:48:54,520 --> 00:48:57,600
And in your weakest moment, that
might not feel like such a bad

753
00:48:57,600 --> 00:49:00,880
thing.
No, no.

754
00:49:00,880 --> 00:49:07,480
And and look, This is why it's
so important to be familiar with

755
00:49:07,480 --> 00:49:12,320
truth, right?
And to have a constant piece of

756
00:49:12,320 --> 00:49:15,560
revelation.
And what's interesting is even

757
00:49:15,600 --> 00:49:24,480
Jesus in here, he says you shall
not live by bread alone, but

758
00:49:24,520 --> 00:49:27,480
every word that proceedeth from
the mouth of God, right?

759
00:49:27,480 --> 00:49:32,040
Again, kind of what you got onto
there, Ammon 100% tip in his hat

760
00:49:32,040 --> 00:49:36,040
towards, well, there's scripture
and then there's additional

761
00:49:36,040 --> 00:49:37,760
scripture in the form of
revelation.

762
00:49:38,440 --> 00:49:43,400
And even the Savior is saying
here that by quoting that

763
00:49:43,400 --> 00:49:46,680
scripture, don't rule out
revelation.

764
00:49:47,760 --> 00:49:53,520
If you rule that out, you will
be left left to your own

765
00:49:53,520 --> 00:49:56,000
devices, and that's probably
less than optimal.

766
00:49:59,560 --> 00:50:01,400
Sorry, I didn't mean to mess up
your flow there.

767
00:50:01,760 --> 00:50:05,760
I'm so glad to draw that up
because that's that's a story I

768
00:50:05,760 --> 00:50:07,600
didn't want to miss.
And I had kind of forgotten

769
00:50:07,600 --> 00:50:13,600
about that because we got going.
Yeah.

770
00:50:13,600 --> 00:50:18,400
The great example showed us how
to deal with temptation by using

771
00:50:18,400 --> 00:50:22,240
the Word of God as a defensive
and offensive weapon.

772
00:50:23,080 --> 00:50:32,870
Both Revelation and the
Scripture and another another

773
00:50:32,870 --> 00:50:35,910
place talking about the Lord of
God, Hebrew.

774
00:50:36,350 --> 00:50:41,230
Hebrews 4 verse 12 and 13 also
talks about the Word of God as a

775
00:50:41,230 --> 00:50:45,590
sword or like a sword he says.
For the Word of God is quick and

776
00:50:45,590 --> 00:50:49,470
powerful and sharper than any 2
edged sword, piercing even to

777
00:50:49,470 --> 00:50:52,830
the dividing asunder of body and
spirit and of joints and marrow,

778
00:50:53,440 --> 00:50:56,240
and is a discerner of the
thoughts and intents of the

779
00:50:56,240 --> 00:50:59,000
heart.
Neither is there any creature

780
00:50:59,000 --> 00:51:01,680
that is not manifest in his
sight, but all things are naked

781
00:51:01,760 --> 00:51:05,840
and open unto the eyes of him
with whom we have to do Speaking

782
00:51:05,840 --> 00:51:11,840
of God.
So throughout scripture it's

783
00:51:12,120 --> 00:51:18,280
very consistent what the Lord
considers His word like unto and

784
00:51:18,280 --> 00:51:22,560
that word of God it it doesn't
matter about your feelings so

785
00:51:22,560 --> 00:51:32,560
much as truth. 100% it.
I've said this for a lot of

786
00:51:32,560 --> 00:51:35,160
years.
The truth has no agenda.

787
00:51:36,000 --> 00:51:38,440
It simply exists because it's
true.

788
00:51:39,040 --> 00:51:41,720
It doesn't take into account how
you feel about it.

789
00:51:42,040 --> 00:51:46,560
It doesn't take into account how
many tears are shed over it.

790
00:51:46,600 --> 00:51:48,840
It just exists because it's the
truth.

791
00:51:50,000 --> 00:51:58,800
And oh boy, if if we understand
that, then we we're going to

792
00:51:58,800 --> 00:52:03,400
have to instinctively understand
that if we hold to the

793
00:52:03,400 --> 00:52:07,560
scriptures and if we use the
scriptures in the word of God as

794
00:52:07,560 --> 00:52:11,240
we're prescribed to use it,
we're not always going to be

795
00:52:11,240 --> 00:52:13,640
light right now.
Right.

796
00:52:14,360 --> 00:52:17,200
If everybody you encounter
thinks that you're kind of a

797
00:52:17,200 --> 00:52:19,440
horse's rear, you may want to
rethink something.

798
00:52:20,360 --> 00:52:25,560
But but certainly out in the
world as as we navigate our way

799
00:52:25,560 --> 00:52:30,680
through that and we try to hold
to those principles, it's going

800
00:52:30,680 --> 00:52:32,400
to rub it.
There's no way it can't.

801
00:52:32,400 --> 00:52:35,440
Jesus promised us that, right?
They're going to hate you.

802
00:52:35,440 --> 00:52:38,480
But remember they hated me first
is what he says essentially

803
00:52:38,520 --> 00:52:42,200
right.
I think we need to to understand

804
00:52:42,200 --> 00:52:45,960
that because as we get in the
game, as as we fulfill our

805
00:52:45,960 --> 00:52:51,440
various roles, I think there's
going to be a lot of times we're

806
00:52:51,440 --> 00:52:53,600
not going to be winning
popularity contest.

807
00:52:54,400 --> 00:52:57,920
I think we're going to be to
have to stand in some

808
00:52:57,920 --> 00:53:04,720
uncomfortable places.
For sure the history of the

809
00:53:04,720 --> 00:53:08,360
earth doesn't show the people
that are in line with God as

810
00:53:08,360 --> 00:53:13,960
being very popular ever, no.
No, no, they're always looked at

811
00:53:13,960 --> 00:53:18,360
as peculiar, different, maybe
even combative from time to

812
00:53:18,360 --> 00:53:21,960
time.
And that's just just where,

813
00:53:21,960 --> 00:53:25,680
where it stacks.
But the other thing my

814
00:53:25,680 --> 00:53:28,600
grandfather used to tell me is
like, if you're not over the the

815
00:53:28,600 --> 00:53:34,120
target, you're not taking Flack.
I mean, you know, you only get,

816
00:53:34,440 --> 00:53:38,000
you only get Flack if you're if
you're encroaching on something

817
00:53:38,000 --> 00:53:45,960
that somebody else deems beyond
criticism.

818
00:53:46,760 --> 00:53:50,640
And so it's important to realize
that too, that their response

819
00:53:50,640 --> 00:53:56,600
will tell you where you are in
terms of of theology and getting

820
00:53:56,600 --> 00:54:01,720
to the root of the problem.
All right, all right, I'll

821
00:54:01,720 --> 00:54:07,400
bring, I'll bring the EFLDS send
it here one more time because

822
00:54:08,160 --> 00:54:10,920
maybe this audience isn't very
aware.

823
00:54:10,920 --> 00:54:16,960
But after my after father went
to prison, he started calling

824
00:54:16,960 --> 00:54:20,640
and giving a lot of revelations
and, you know, trying to be like

825
00:54:20,640 --> 00:54:24,640
the Prophet Joseph, whatever.
And up till now, you know, he's

826
00:54:24,640 --> 00:54:30,160
given volume, volume upon volume
of 1000 page books, several of

827
00:54:30,160 --> 00:54:33,720
them written.
And and there's this group of

828
00:54:33,720 --> 00:54:36,400
people that take that they feel
like this is the word of God

829
00:54:36,680 --> 00:54:39,280
they follow that they won't be
deceived and so forth.

830
00:54:40,080 --> 00:54:45,440
And, you know, I was there at
one time, but there was

831
00:54:45,720 --> 00:54:50,160
something that started to happen
that started to make me question

832
00:54:50,160 --> 00:54:53,760
and go to the older scriptures
first.

833
00:54:53,760 --> 00:54:56,520
I had, I had heard this from
some of the early leaders in

834
00:54:56,520 --> 00:55:01,880
this fundamentalist movement say
if what we say doesn't square

835
00:55:02,040 --> 00:55:05,480
with the Scriptures, the
standard works, you can throw it

836
00:55:05,480 --> 00:55:11,280
out.
And father started to make a lot

837
00:55:11,280 --> 00:55:15,480
of prophecies and he started to
put times, dates on them when

838
00:55:15,480 --> 00:55:18,120
this would happen and that would
happen and it wouldn't happen.

839
00:55:18,160 --> 00:55:22,320
Or he'd say a certain person
committed this great sin.

840
00:55:22,320 --> 00:55:27,480
And I knew they didn't.
And one day I was reading the

841
00:55:27,480 --> 00:55:30,680
Bible, you know, like what, what
are we supposed to do if this

842
00:55:30,680 --> 00:55:34,240
man that says he's the prophet
is making false prophecies?

843
00:55:35,160 --> 00:55:41,120
And I read out of Deuteronomy
like 2 verses towards the end

844
00:55:41,280 --> 00:55:48,840
says if a prophet prophesied
falsely, you don't need to fear

845
00:55:48,840 --> 00:55:51,160
him and you don't need to give
him any heed.

846
00:55:52,080 --> 00:55:54,800
And then I read the Prophet
Joseph, he said, you know, a

847
00:55:54,800 --> 00:55:57,960
man's a prophet, but if his
prophecies are fulfilled or not.

848
00:55:58,800 --> 00:56:01,480
And that, that was one thing
that was really became clear to

849
00:56:01,480 --> 00:56:06,440
me also in that situation.
Interesting.

850
00:56:06,760 --> 00:56:10,240
So it provided kind of a litmus
test wherewith you could judge

851
00:56:10,440 --> 00:56:12,800
more accurately.
Right.

852
00:56:14,120 --> 00:56:19,760
You know, that's interesting
because so much of discipleship

853
00:56:19,760 --> 00:56:24,320
to the Lord Jesus Christ has a
lot to do with judgement, right?

854
00:56:24,600 --> 00:56:28,600
On one hand, we're commanded not
to judge people, right?

855
00:56:29,240 --> 00:56:35,800
And I'm, I'm, I'm a fan of that,
right people, I, I firmly

856
00:56:35,800 --> 00:56:40,160
believe that most, not all, but
the vast majority of people

857
00:56:40,160 --> 00:56:44,840
don't want to do bad things.
They just don't, those are

858
00:56:44,840 --> 00:56:48,240
mistakes.
But every once in a while

859
00:56:48,240 --> 00:56:52,320
someone comes along who does
want to do bad things.

860
00:56:52,560 --> 00:56:58,960
That is their intent.
And certainly we can judge those

861
00:56:58,960 --> 00:57:01,040
actions.
We're not prohibited from

862
00:57:01,040 --> 00:57:03,360
judging another person person's
actions.

863
00:57:04,200 --> 00:57:07,400
We want to make sure that we're
judging righteously and I think

864
00:57:07,400 --> 00:57:12,080
what you just illuminated is in
that story is exactly the way it

865
00:57:12,080 --> 00:57:15,760
should be done.
Get what we do have right What

866
00:57:15,760 --> 00:57:19,480
what the Lord has revealed.
You know, anciently and modern

867
00:57:20,200 --> 00:57:24,440
and square it right.
If if it doesn't square those

868
00:57:24,440 --> 00:57:28,640
early brethren were right.
You can, you can kind of move on

869
00:57:28,640 --> 00:57:31,960
from that.
Now again, in Mormonism, it's a

870
00:57:31,960 --> 00:57:34,520
little different, right?
We, we have supplemental, if you

871
00:57:34,520 --> 00:57:37,240
will, right.
You can look at the teachings of

872
00:57:37,240 --> 00:57:39,720
the Prophet Joseph Smith, some
of those writings from those

873
00:57:39,720 --> 00:57:46,080
early brethren.
But it's amazing that darn near

874
00:57:46,080 --> 00:57:47,960
everything.
And I would say the things that

875
00:57:47,960 --> 00:57:51,680
don't appear to square with
scripture on the surface just

876
00:57:51,680 --> 00:57:54,480
requires a little bit more
reading and prayer because they

877
00:57:54,480 --> 00:57:57,600
did square with those with,
with, with the scriptures.

878
00:57:57,600 --> 00:58:01,560
It was squared there and so we
don't have to be afraid to use

879
00:58:01,560 --> 00:58:05,800
that standard.
Yeah, sum that up.

880
00:58:05,800 --> 00:58:11,880
Yet the Word of God is our
sword, defensive and offensive,

881
00:58:13,240 --> 00:58:17,760
and we find it in the Scriptures
and also the light of Christ in

882
00:58:17,760 --> 00:58:21,600
our heart and mind, guiding us
to judge between good and evil.

883
00:58:24,000 --> 00:58:27,720
Absolutely, absolutely.
Let let me ask this question.

884
00:58:28,480 --> 00:58:31,280
I'm sorry, was there somewhere
else you wanted to go or or was

885
00:58:31,520 --> 00:58:34,200
did we get through it?
I I feel like we're pretty,

886
00:58:34,360 --> 00:58:36,800
we've done pretty well.
So let's keep going.

887
00:58:36,800 --> 00:58:41,320
What your question is?
What prevents people from

888
00:58:41,320 --> 00:58:46,800
getting in the right perspective
or the right place spiritually

889
00:58:46,800 --> 00:58:51,600
to be able to get the messages
out of the scriptures or get

890
00:58:51,600 --> 00:58:55,920
that revelation that they need
to be able to navigate things,

891
00:58:56,480 --> 00:59:02,280
right?
I think so often people are are

892
00:59:02,280 --> 00:59:03,840
just kind of out of sorts,
right?

893
00:59:03,840 --> 00:59:07,040
They're not lined up with that.
Certainly I feel that way quite

894
00:59:07,040 --> 00:59:10,680
a bit from time to time.
How is it we get ourselves into

895
00:59:10,680 --> 00:59:15,360
that place that that revelatory
place to where we can read the

896
00:59:15,360 --> 00:59:19,720
scriptures, extract what we need
from them, and also be able to

897
00:59:19,720 --> 00:59:24,200
stand in a place where we can
receive direct revelation when

898
00:59:24,200 --> 00:59:28,000
we need it?
What keeps people from that?

899
00:59:29,200 --> 00:59:32,120
I believe that probably one of
the number one things that we

900
00:59:32,120 --> 00:59:39,160
deal with is not wanting to
sacrifice convenience for

901
00:59:39,640 --> 00:59:44,080
putting forth that effort, that
gratitude towards God that will

902
00:59:44,080 --> 00:59:48,280
bring us in tune with the Spirit
of God and that opens the

903
00:59:48,280 --> 00:59:51,160
Scriptures to us.
And I've certainly been in that

904
00:59:51,160 --> 00:59:55,520
place many times where you feel
like the the heavens are brass

905
00:59:55,520 --> 00:59:59,240
over your head, so to speak, and
you just aren't getting what you

906
00:59:59,240 --> 01:00:01,960
need out of the Scriptures.
And I believe it.

907
01:00:01,960 --> 01:00:06,680
It takes the sacrifice and the
humility, you know, while

908
01:00:06,680 --> 01:00:09,720
they're in heaven, what what do
I need to do with myself to

909
01:00:09,720 --> 01:00:11,720
change?
So I'm in tune with your spirit,

910
01:00:12,520 --> 01:00:18,640
so I'm obedient, so I have that
righteousness within me, where

911
01:00:18,640 --> 01:00:20,400
the Spirit will flow unto me as
I read.

912
01:00:20,400 --> 01:00:21,920
Or sheep to understand the
truth.

913
01:00:22,920 --> 01:00:26,960
Because often it's little
disobediences that pull us away

914
01:00:26,960 --> 01:00:28,960
from that, not some great big
sin.

915
01:00:29,040 --> 01:00:33,920
You know, something as simple as
maybe you have an impression to,

916
01:00:34,160 --> 01:00:37,120
you know, pick up the trash up
floor or help your wife with the

917
01:00:37,120 --> 01:00:39,040
dishes or something simple like
that.

918
01:00:39,040 --> 01:00:42,240
You know, don't watch TV right
now, do this other good thing.

919
01:00:42,920 --> 01:00:47,760
And when we don't, we start to
feel clouded in our minds.

920
01:00:50,480 --> 01:00:58,080
So one of my favorite things to
study about is military history,

921
01:00:58,760 --> 01:01:02,480
and not necessarily even current
military history, right?

922
01:01:02,480 --> 01:01:05,440
Like going way back.
And one of the things I

923
01:01:05,440 --> 01:01:11,120
discovered was the communication
between the generals and the men

924
01:01:11,120 --> 01:01:14,600
executing the orders on the
ground is vital, right?

925
01:01:14,600 --> 01:01:17,520
There's a reason that even in
the old days, the generals

926
01:01:17,520 --> 01:01:21,880
usually were back out of the
fray so that they could direct

927
01:01:22,320 --> 01:01:28,840
what was happening.
Communication is so vital, and I

928
01:01:28,840 --> 01:01:31,360
think a large portion of what
we've talked about tonight with

929
01:01:31,360 --> 01:01:35,600
the sword of the Spirit, which
is the Word of God, is being

930
01:01:35,600 --> 01:01:38,640
able to get communication from
from our Father in heaven, who

931
01:01:38,640 --> 01:01:41,480
has a much better vantage point
of the battle than we do.

932
01:01:42,400 --> 01:01:47,840
Right.
Any, any good military advisor

933
01:01:47,840 --> 01:01:50,520
or general that's worth assault?
One of the first things they're

934
01:01:50,520 --> 01:01:52,960
going to take out is
communications, right?

935
01:01:53,400 --> 01:01:56,240
You don't let the generals
communicate with the men on the

936
01:01:56,240 --> 01:01:58,400
ground.
If you can do that, you can

937
01:01:58,400 --> 01:02:01,840
cause chaos with the, with the
guys actually fighting the

938
01:02:01,840 --> 01:02:04,440
battle.
And then the battle's pretty

939
01:02:04,440 --> 01:02:05,880
much over.
They don't even they don't

940
01:02:05,880 --> 01:02:09,600
realize it's over, but it's it's
done now.

941
01:02:10,560 --> 01:02:16,160
How does that apply here?
And this is this again, this is

942
01:02:16,200 --> 01:02:20,400
a tricky ploy by the adversary.
This is not something that I

943
01:02:20,400 --> 01:02:22,240
think we can, we should take
lightly.

944
01:02:22,240 --> 01:02:24,680
We should understand that this
is kind of his playbook.

945
01:02:25,840 --> 01:02:29,560
If he was to come, you know, if,
if, if, if Amon was trying to be

946
01:02:29,560 --> 01:02:33,960
in the spirit and, and, and the,
the adversary shows up and says,

947
01:02:33,960 --> 01:02:35,840
you know what, Amon, don't worry
about that.

948
01:02:35,840 --> 01:02:39,400
Why don't you just, you know,
come over here and watch this

949
01:02:39,400 --> 01:02:41,600
thing on the Internet that you
know, you're not supposed to

950
01:02:41,600 --> 01:02:44,080
watch, right?
That's too easy.

951
01:02:44,560 --> 01:02:46,400
It's too easy.
You're going to, you're going to

952
01:02:46,400 --> 01:02:48,080
spot that.
You're going to be like, go

953
01:02:48,080 --> 01:02:50,320
pound Sandman because I'm not
doing that.

954
01:02:52,240 --> 01:02:59,800
What I find happening today in
society at large isn't people

955
01:02:59,800 --> 01:03:03,360
being tested willfully.
Certainly that does happen and

956
01:03:03,360 --> 01:03:06,440
people fall victim to that.
But I think more than anything

957
01:03:06,440 --> 01:03:10,000
else, a lot of what the
adversary is doing today is

958
01:03:10,000 --> 01:03:14,640
cutting off communications.
And let me explain that he's not

959
01:03:14,640 --> 01:03:17,400
doing it by being like, well,
you should just come over to the

960
01:03:17,400 --> 01:03:19,280
bar tonight, right?
You should just hang out at the

961
01:03:19,280 --> 01:03:20,800
bar all night.
That's what you should do.

962
01:03:21,520 --> 01:03:26,840
He's doing it this way.
You got a small family, right?

963
01:03:26,840 --> 01:03:31,680
Or, or a mid sized family even.
And it's like, you know, you got

964
01:03:31,680 --> 01:03:34,520
one kid who's in soccer
practice, another kid that's in

965
01:03:34,960 --> 01:03:40,120
in in ballet, another kid that's
in gymnastics, You know,

966
01:03:40,120 --> 01:03:44,280
whatever it is, you got kids
going every direction, right?

967
01:03:44,880 --> 01:03:48,840
Mom and dad is out working,
pounding away at it, trying to

968
01:03:48,920 --> 01:03:51,320
just get keep a roof over
everybody's heads.

969
01:03:52,280 --> 01:03:54,880
Mom is busy running kids
everywhere.

970
01:03:56,760 --> 01:04:01,400
That does not lend itself to
being in a place to where we can

971
01:04:01,400 --> 01:04:04,480
receive revelation.
Because none of those things are

972
01:04:04,480 --> 01:04:06,360
bad, right?
There's nothing wrong with

973
01:04:06,360 --> 01:04:08,440
making a living.
We've got to go make a living.

974
01:04:08,720 --> 01:04:11,040
There's nothing wrong with
soccer or football.

975
01:04:11,040 --> 01:04:12,880
It's good for your kids to be
active.

976
01:04:13,280 --> 01:04:15,360
Nothing wrong with piano
lessons, right?

977
01:04:16,480 --> 01:04:22,360
But something happens inside of
all of that where where all of a

978
01:04:22,360 --> 01:04:25,960
sudden, because you're so busy,
you don't have time to just sit

979
01:04:26,440 --> 01:04:30,280
and breathe and try to get in
tune, right?

980
01:04:30,600 --> 01:04:35,240
And so it's a very clever ploy.
And so we have to Start learning

981
01:04:35,240 --> 01:04:38,680
how to prioritize things a
little bit better.

982
01:04:38,680 --> 01:04:41,760
I'm not saying give up all the
extracurriculars, right?

983
01:04:42,240 --> 01:04:44,400
But maybe you need to pare down
a little bit.

984
01:04:46,200 --> 01:04:50,400
Amber, my, my, my wife Amber,
she, she was awesome at that.

985
01:04:50,880 --> 01:04:54,680
I remember there was a time
where we had, we had six kids,

986
01:04:55,560 --> 01:04:58,680
four of them, we're all in doing
something right.

987
01:04:59,600 --> 01:05:02,480
And I remember there was a
moment where where she came to

988
01:05:02,480 --> 01:05:04,360
me and she just said we need to
slow down.

989
01:05:05,280 --> 01:05:06,520
I was like, what do you mean
slow down?

990
01:05:06,520 --> 01:05:09,400
Right?
Like now, to be fair, I'm a guy

991
01:05:09,400 --> 01:05:12,120
that really enjoys going 100
miles an hour with my hair on

992
01:05:12,120 --> 01:05:14,440
fire.
If I'm not right in the middle

993
01:05:14,440 --> 01:05:17,160
of it, I am probably not as
happy as I could be.

994
01:05:18,200 --> 01:05:21,240
That thing I said about taking a
rest on the beach, that sounds

995
01:05:21,240 --> 01:05:23,800
all well and good, but truth be
told, I'm.

996
01:05:23,800 --> 01:05:27,760
Going to be there for about. 25
minutes and I'm like, yeah, I

997
01:05:27,760 --> 01:05:31,400
got to go do something, right.
And so for me, that was hard,

998
01:05:31,400 --> 01:05:33,960
right?
A guy riddled with with adult

999
01:05:34,520 --> 01:05:36,400
attention deficit disorder,
right?

1000
01:05:36,720 --> 01:05:40,680
To just slow down.
But she was 100% correct because

1001
01:05:40,680 --> 01:05:43,760
her reasoning was this.
And I didn't even pick it up.

1002
01:05:43,760 --> 01:05:47,080
She's like, you realize we
haven't all sat down as a family

1003
01:05:47,800 --> 01:05:52,280
in over a month and a half to a
meal, like even on Sundays,

1004
01:05:52,280 --> 01:05:55,120
you're, you're, you're doing
your church duties right.

1005
01:05:55,120 --> 01:05:58,280
You're, you're going to your
meetings and, and because I

1006
01:05:58,280 --> 01:06:01,080
always had more meetings than,
than Amber and the kids because

1007
01:06:01,440 --> 01:06:04,680
I was either in young men's or
elders quorum or bishopric or

1008
01:06:04,680 --> 01:06:09,120
something like that, right?
And so she was 100% correct.

1009
01:06:09,120 --> 01:06:14,520
And so we had to get very
deliberate about shutting things

1010
01:06:14,520 --> 01:06:17,720
down, right?
And so the next year what we did

1011
01:06:18,160 --> 01:06:22,080
is we just said, OK, I'm not
going to coach football now,

1012
01:06:22,240 --> 01:06:23,560
right?
I'm going to take a step back

1013
01:06:23,560 --> 01:06:28,880
and just watch, which drove me
nuts, but nonetheless, I did it.

1014
01:06:31,200 --> 01:06:34,160
And we just told the kids,
you're going to get to do one

1015
01:06:34,160 --> 01:06:37,640
thing a year, right?
Because we need time back home

1016
01:06:37,640 --> 01:06:42,360
as a family.
And when we did that, everything

1017
01:06:42,360 --> 01:06:45,240
changed in our family.
Everything changed.

1018
01:06:45,640 --> 01:06:48,840
All the sudden we started to get
our kids on the same page and

1019
01:06:48,840 --> 01:06:52,480
Amber and I were on the same
page, and we could start moving

1020
01:06:52,480 --> 01:06:56,240
forward in a, in a direction
that that carried us closer to

1021
01:06:56,240 --> 01:06:59,080
God.
But in those moments where we

1022
01:06:59,080 --> 01:07:01,720
were really busy, and again, it
wasn't bad things, Ammon.

1023
01:07:02,320 --> 01:07:06,560
It was just stuff that got in
the way.

1024
01:07:06,560 --> 01:07:08,760
It jammed up the lines of
communication.

1025
01:07:09,400 --> 01:07:14,560
So I think we have to set aside
time to where when we either

1026
01:07:14,560 --> 01:07:18,760
read the scriptures or try to
pray that that it's a place

1027
01:07:18,760 --> 01:07:24,520
where where we can just hear his
voice or otherwise we're going

1028
01:07:24,520 --> 01:07:26,840
to get those lines of
communication jammed up.

1029
01:07:28,720 --> 01:07:31,960
Yeah, IA 100% believe you or
agree with you on that.

1030
01:07:32,120 --> 01:07:36,240
And I, I think one of the tools
of Satan in this day especially

1031
01:07:36,240 --> 01:07:40,400
is to fight against the family
unit, to try to destroy the

1032
01:07:40,400 --> 01:07:43,960
family unit, drive us apart,
keep us separated.

1033
01:07:44,880 --> 01:07:49,400
And you don't even realize it's
happening until you step back

1034
01:07:49,400 --> 01:07:51,720
and look at it, right?
Just like you said with your

1035
01:07:51,720 --> 01:07:55,880
family, it's so easy to get
caught up in so many things in

1036
01:07:55,880 --> 01:07:59,240
your earning a living and
schooling your children, trying

1037
01:07:59,240 --> 01:08:03,640
to take care of everything too,
without even realizing it's

1038
01:08:03,640 --> 01:08:05,640
happening.
Absolutely.

1039
01:08:07,200 --> 01:08:09,800
This is the day that the fights
against the family, probably

1040
01:08:09,800 --> 01:08:15,920
more than ever before.
I, I agree with you so, so much

1041
01:08:15,920 --> 01:08:20,080
on that.
And it should really tell us

1042
01:08:20,080 --> 01:08:21,680
where the emphasis should be,
right?

1043
01:08:21,680 --> 01:08:24,600
If he, if, if the adversary's
coming that hard at families,

1044
01:08:24,920 --> 01:08:28,760
there's a reason for it, right?
He wants to redefine it.

1045
01:08:28,760 --> 01:08:34,000
He wants to get rid of it.
Whatever he can do to sabotage a

1046
01:08:34,000 --> 01:08:37,760
man and a woman coming together
and raising children, that's

1047
01:08:37,920 --> 01:08:39,920
that seems to be his number one
priority.

1048
01:08:40,160 --> 01:08:42,520
So it should tell us how
important that is.

1049
01:08:43,560 --> 01:08:48,160
Did you, were you ever aware of
a a guy named Elder Groberg out

1050
01:08:48,160 --> 01:08:51,399
of the LDS church?
I don't I don't recognize the

1051
01:08:51,399 --> 01:08:54,439
name.
OK, they're they actually made a

1052
01:08:54,439 --> 01:08:56,439
movie about his mission.
Disney did.

1053
01:08:57,000 --> 01:09:00,560
Oh, gosh, I want to say probably
15 years ago now called The

1054
01:09:00,560 --> 01:09:05,240
Other Side of Heaven, which
followed his his mission to

1055
01:09:05,240 --> 01:09:07,200
Tonga.
I think it was Tonga.

1056
01:09:07,200 --> 01:09:08,760
It was one of the Pacific
islands.

1057
01:09:09,680 --> 01:09:14,680
And it was a good movie.
But he wrote an essay once on an

1058
01:09:14,680 --> 01:09:19,880
experience he'd had there that
really drove this point home.

1059
01:09:21,120 --> 01:09:24,479
And it was about a young boy
named Finneu.

1060
01:09:24,720 --> 01:09:27,960
I shouldn't say young boy.
He was a young man named Finneu.

1061
01:09:28,760 --> 01:09:33,720
And this elder Groberg and his
companion had bumped into this

1062
01:09:33,720 --> 01:09:35,399
young man and taught him the
gospel.

1063
01:09:36,920 --> 01:09:41,120
And this young man, as he's
taken the lessons, his father

1064
01:09:41,120 --> 01:09:44,640
finds out from his older brother
that he's been taking these

1065
01:09:44,640 --> 01:09:47,560
lessons.
And this family had been some

1066
01:09:47,560 --> 01:09:50,399
sort of denomination for a lot
of years on that island.

1067
01:09:51,000 --> 01:09:56,960
And the father, who was really
rough, a heavy drinker, told

1068
01:09:56,960 --> 01:10:00,920
Vinay, you, you will not become
a Mormon, period.

1069
01:10:01,880 --> 01:10:05,160
And if you do, there will be
repercussions.

1070
01:10:06,560 --> 01:10:10,520
And the, you know, Feneu, he
just kind of nods his heads and

1071
01:10:10,520 --> 01:10:15,200
and carries on.
So they get to the point in the

1072
01:10:15,240 --> 01:10:17,840
missionary discussions where
they're like, would you be

1073
01:10:17,840 --> 01:10:21,520
baptized?
And Feneu said, I will, but

1074
01:10:21,520 --> 01:10:22,840
we're going to have to do it at
night.

1075
01:10:22,840 --> 01:10:25,680
Now this, this young man is like
19 years old.

1076
01:10:25,680 --> 01:10:31,040
It's not like he's underage.
And so he says, yeah, I will.

1077
01:10:31,040 --> 01:10:33,920
But we're going to have to do it
at night and probably in the

1078
01:10:33,920 --> 01:10:37,000
ocean so that none of my family
know.

1079
01:10:37,600 --> 01:10:40,880
And the elders, you know, and
this is back in the 40s or 50s,

1080
01:10:40,880 --> 01:10:42,880
right?
So the elders kind of look at

1081
01:10:42,880 --> 01:10:45,120
themselves and you get this
feeling like, well, can we do

1082
01:10:45,120 --> 01:10:46,360
that?
And then, you know, they're

1083
01:10:46,360 --> 01:10:48,360
like, well, I don't know, but
let's do it anyway.

1084
01:10:48,760 --> 01:10:52,800
Sort of a thing, right?
So they scheduled the the

1085
01:10:52,800 --> 01:10:57,560
baptism for a couple days later.
Somehow word got out to Phineu's

1086
01:10:57,560 --> 01:11:00,680
older brother and he went and
talked to his dad.

1087
01:11:01,240 --> 01:11:06,120
And his dad was like, wait till
he's baptized and then go teach

1088
01:11:06,120 --> 01:11:10,600
him a lesson.
So the elders talk about how

1089
01:11:10,600 --> 01:11:13,840
they get the elder Groberg talks
about how they take this young

1090
01:11:13,840 --> 01:11:15,400
man, they wade out into the
ocean.

1091
01:11:17,360 --> 01:11:21,040
They they bring the arm to the
square, they say the prayer and

1092
01:11:21,040 --> 01:11:24,040
they baptize him.
And as soon as he comes out of

1093
01:11:24,040 --> 01:11:28,480
the water, they hear this just
Primal Scream coming out of some

1094
01:11:28,480 --> 01:11:30,640
of the shrubbery right next to
the beach.

1095
01:11:31,360 --> 01:11:35,120
And his older brother comes
storming out with a club and

1096
01:11:35,120 --> 01:11:38,480
just begins to wail on his
younger brother for becoming a

1097
01:11:38,480 --> 01:11:42,520
Mormon.
I mean, breaks skin, bruises

1098
01:11:42,680 --> 01:11:45,760
bad, leaves him face down in the
ocean.

1099
01:11:46,640 --> 01:11:51,360
Now think about open wounds in
that salt water just rushing

1100
01:11:51,360 --> 01:11:56,800
across there that's going to
sting the elders who like did

1101
01:11:57,920 --> 01:12:00,720
like went and jumped in the
bushes so they didn't get hit,

1102
01:12:00,720 --> 01:12:03,360
right?
Like forgot the poor convert and

1103
01:12:03,360 --> 01:12:05,320
like, oh, let's just get to
safety.

1104
01:12:06,200 --> 01:12:09,520
They rush back into the ocean
when his brother leaves and they

1105
01:12:09,520 --> 01:12:15,000
they, they get him to shore.
They lay him down and they say

1106
01:12:15,200 --> 01:12:19,000
he's conscious and he's like, we
got to get you to the hospital

1107
01:12:19,120 --> 01:12:24,160
right now because these wounds
look bad and you need medical

1108
01:12:24,160 --> 01:12:26,960
attention.
And they were starting to try to

1109
01:12:26,960 --> 01:12:30,360
stand him up to leave.
And he forces himself back on

1110
01:12:30,360 --> 01:12:33,920
the ground.
And the elders are like, what

1111
01:12:33,920 --> 01:12:36,240
are you doing?
Like, we got to get you to a

1112
01:12:36,240 --> 01:12:39,600
doctor now.
And he's like, no.

1113
01:12:41,600 --> 01:12:44,720
And of course, these two elders
are like, what do you mean no,

1114
01:12:45,240 --> 01:12:47,280
Right.
Like, this is not a debate.

1115
01:12:47,440 --> 01:12:53,360
This is you are seriously hurt.
And Finneh, you said something

1116
01:12:53,360 --> 01:12:57,960
that when I read it, absolutely
changed my whole outlook on

1117
01:12:57,960 --> 01:13:00,880
this.
He said, you're right, it is

1118
01:13:00,880 --> 01:13:02,920
important that I get to the
doctor.

1119
01:13:03,720 --> 01:13:06,680
It's so important that if I have
some of that internal bleeding

1120
01:13:06,680 --> 01:13:09,280
you were you told me about, I
might die.

1121
01:13:10,680 --> 01:13:15,560
But if I die now, I'm not yet
confirmed a member of this

1122
01:13:15,560 --> 01:13:19,160
church.
So you will confirm me, a member

1123
01:13:19,160 --> 01:13:22,920
of the church and pass along the
gift of the Holy Ghost before I

1124
01:13:22,920 --> 01:13:26,520
die.
And, you know, so again, you've

1125
01:13:26,520 --> 01:13:30,680
got these, you know, late teen,
early 20 boys who were probably

1126
01:13:30,680 --> 01:13:34,080
just staring at each other,
like, I guess, right?

1127
01:13:34,120 --> 01:13:38,320
And just kind of, you know, said
the prayer, but also made sure

1128
01:13:38,320 --> 01:13:40,880
to include that he would heal
from these injuries and that

1129
01:13:40,880 --> 01:13:43,520
sort of thing.
They do get him the hospital.

1130
01:13:43,520 --> 01:13:50,320
He's got no lasting injuries.
Later on, his dad actually joins

1131
01:13:50,320 --> 01:13:53,360
the church and so does his whole
family, his brother, everybody.

1132
01:13:55,200 --> 01:13:59,520
But why do I tell that story?
It's it's it has to do with this

1133
01:13:59,960 --> 01:14:03,920
idea of Lucifer gumming up the
work, so to speak, right?

1134
01:14:03,920 --> 01:14:06,000
And how we don't let that
happen.

1135
01:14:07,280 --> 01:14:10,520
We have to choose.
Look, most, I shouldn't say

1136
01:14:10,520 --> 01:14:13,920
most, there's a lot of choices
in life that we make that are

1137
01:14:13,920 --> 01:14:18,840
kind of no brainers, right?
Like do I pay my bills or do I

1138
01:14:18,840 --> 01:14:21,200
say forget my bills and go on
vacation?

1139
01:14:21,200 --> 01:14:24,120
You pay your bills, right?
You keep your house, right?

1140
01:14:24,440 --> 01:14:29,640
That's a no brainer, right?
Then there's other decisions

1141
01:14:30,520 --> 01:14:33,920
where you got to choose between
what's important and what's

1142
01:14:33,960 --> 01:14:38,520
vital, right?
And what I see this this young

1143
01:14:38,520 --> 01:14:42,520
congen man do is that he had two
choices in front of him.

1144
01:14:42,920 --> 01:14:47,000
One was super important, get to
the doctor and make sure you're

1145
01:14:47,000 --> 01:14:50,520
going to live.
The other was vital.

1146
01:14:50,720 --> 01:14:55,800
Make sure that if I don't, I am
in good standing with my God.

1147
01:14:56,920 --> 01:14:59,960
Exactly.
And so when we start looking at

1148
01:14:59,960 --> 01:15:03,640
these things where Satan tries
to gum up the works or gum up

1149
01:15:03,680 --> 01:15:08,400
our communication, where we
don't have the time necessary as

1150
01:15:08,400 --> 01:15:11,640
individuals or as families to
get into the Scripture to kneel

1151
01:15:11,640 --> 01:15:17,440
down together, to pray as a
family, I think it then becomes

1152
01:15:17,440 --> 01:15:21,240
incumbent upon us, certainly as
fathers, as head of households

1153
01:15:21,760 --> 01:15:25,480
say, OK, what am I doing?
Do I need to scale this back?

1154
01:15:25,480 --> 01:15:30,760
Do I need to, to, to, to get
everybody home more?

1155
01:15:30,760 --> 01:15:32,880
Do I need to slow things down?
Right.

1156
01:15:33,160 --> 01:15:36,320
And you're going to have to make
those choices between what's

1157
01:15:36,320 --> 01:15:40,240
important and what's vital.
And so my question to you is,

1158
01:15:40,440 --> 01:15:43,720
how do we make those choices,
Amin, right, Because the no

1159
01:15:43,720 --> 01:15:46,520
brainers are easy.
Go to Disneyland or pay your

1160
01:15:46,520 --> 01:15:48,840
bills.
You pay your bills, right?

1161
01:15:48,840 --> 01:15:51,240
But how do we choose between
what's important and what's

1162
01:15:51,240 --> 01:15:53,120
vital?
Right.

1163
01:15:53,120 --> 01:15:57,880
So that that's a, that's a good
question, a hard question.

1164
01:15:58,120 --> 01:16:03,400
And in the story you brought up,
which that's a excellent point,

1165
01:16:03,400 --> 01:16:08,560
that man knew what was most
important to him, and that was

1166
01:16:08,560 --> 01:16:13,360
the favor of his Heavenly Father
over his health, over his own

1167
01:16:15,040 --> 01:16:19,960
physical welfare.
And perhaps that's a key there,

1168
01:16:21,120 --> 01:16:28,240
that story where he chose the
vital over the necessary right,

1169
01:16:29,240 --> 01:16:32,000
the thing that he felt would
please his Father in heaven the

1170
01:16:32,000 --> 01:16:35,840
most, more than just him being
taken care of.

1171
01:16:36,600 --> 01:16:40,440
And I think we all run into
situations like that in our

1172
01:16:40,440 --> 01:16:47,120
life, maybe not nearly so
drastic, but but the simple, am

1173
01:16:47,120 --> 01:16:51,080
I going to kneel down with my
family and read with them

1174
01:16:51,080 --> 01:16:53,520
tonight?
Or are we in such a rush doing

1175
01:16:53,520 --> 01:16:56,200
all these other things that are
really good, really helpful, you

1176
01:16:56,200 --> 01:16:59,720
know, helping our children learn
and grow or ourselves or

1177
01:16:59,720 --> 01:17:03,520
whatever it is or this thing
that's a vital to our faith in

1178
01:17:03,720 --> 01:17:07,680
Heavenly Father and abiding his
laws first.

1179
01:17:10,160 --> 01:17:15,280
Absolutely, absolutely.
I think, I think we have to have

1180
01:17:15,280 --> 01:17:18,960
the right perspective, right?
We have to have an eternal

1181
01:17:18,960 --> 01:17:24,480
perspective and that that takes
work to get there.

1182
01:17:24,840 --> 01:17:30,600
But it it's not Herculean kind
of heavy lift kind of work,

1183
01:17:30,600 --> 01:17:32,920
right?
It's usually doing the little

1184
01:17:32,920 --> 01:17:35,560
things that that will get us
there.

1185
01:17:36,560 --> 01:17:38,960
The root word of discipleship is
discipline.

1186
01:17:42,280 --> 01:17:46,600
And discipline never sounds fun,
ever, right?

1187
01:17:46,880 --> 01:17:51,480
I mean, you're either getting
disciplined or, or you're

1188
01:17:51,480 --> 01:17:56,160
practicing discipline, right?
You know who Jocko Willnick is?

1189
01:17:56,720 --> 01:18:00,640
I don't.
Jocko Willnick is a former Navy

1190
01:18:00,640 --> 01:18:05,320
SEAL.
And then he came home and I

1191
01:18:05,320 --> 01:18:10,240
mean, he was decorated too.
He was, he was like legendary in

1192
01:18:10,240 --> 01:18:11,800
the teams from what I
understand.

1193
01:18:13,080 --> 01:18:17,280
And he comes home and he ends up
starting a business and he

1194
01:18:17,280 --> 01:18:23,000
starts writing a book because he
sees that that leadership is

1195
01:18:23,080 --> 01:18:26,080
kind of waning.
So he writes a book called

1196
01:18:26,080 --> 01:18:31,160
Extreme Ownership where he just
says, OK, if I can own it, I can

1197
01:18:31,160 --> 01:18:35,160
fix it.
But he's got a great saying in

1198
01:18:35,160 --> 01:18:41,480
there, which is discipline
equals freedom, which I really,

1199
01:18:41,480 --> 01:18:43,680
really like.
And I, I have found that to be a

1200
01:18:43,680 --> 01:18:47,360
true principle that the more
you're disciplined, oddly

1201
01:18:47,360 --> 01:18:49,240
enough, the more freedom you can
enjoy.

1202
01:18:50,200 --> 01:18:52,600
But you've got to be disciplined
in those things.

1203
01:18:53,200 --> 01:18:56,960
And when you're, when we're
doing the little things, we

1204
01:18:57,000 --> 01:19:00,680
can't rely on motivation.
Motivation is fickle, right?

1205
01:19:00,840 --> 01:19:02,920
Or at least it's fickle with me,
right?

1206
01:19:02,920 --> 01:19:08,080
From from, you know, getting my
butt up and making sure I attend

1207
01:19:08,080 --> 01:19:11,600
my meetings to making sure I
make it to the gym, right?

1208
01:19:12,080 --> 01:19:15,240
There's just sometimes where I
am not motivated and that's

1209
01:19:15,240 --> 01:19:19,440
where discipline has to kick in,
where it's just like, this is

1210
01:19:19,440 --> 01:19:23,880
what we do, right?
This is not negotiable.

1211
01:19:24,040 --> 01:19:27,200
This is what we do.
And sometimes I think just

1212
01:19:27,200 --> 01:19:30,720
getting into the practice with
you and your family of of saying

1213
01:19:30,720 --> 01:19:33,960
prayers and reading scriptures
together will get us there.

1214
01:19:34,040 --> 01:19:38,000
The discipline can carry it when
motivation leaves us high and

1215
01:19:38,000 --> 01:19:41,120
dry.
Yeah, I think Brother Brigham

1216
01:19:41,440 --> 01:19:46,760
touches on that subject too,
pretty importantly about I don't

1217
01:19:46,760 --> 01:19:49,760
care what you feel like.
I don't care if your cows are in

1218
01:19:49,760 --> 01:19:51,600
your corn.
Get down and say your prayers

1219
01:19:51,600 --> 01:19:56,160
with your family first.
Yeah, yeah, that sounds like

1220
01:19:56,160 --> 01:20:00,120
something Brigham would say.
And back to that subject, you

1221
01:20:00,120 --> 01:20:02,120
know.
How do you, how do you make that

1222
01:20:02,240 --> 01:20:06,680
right choice and those kind of
things, part of that includes

1223
01:20:06,680 --> 01:20:12,280
that disciplining your mind to
ask the question, what would God

1224
01:20:12,280 --> 01:20:15,240
have me do first in this
situation?

1225
01:20:16,520 --> 01:20:20,240
And I believe that if you ask
yourself that he's going to give

1226
01:20:20,240 --> 01:20:23,760
you the right impression to
follow in that situation,

1227
01:20:25,000 --> 01:20:28,280
whatever it is.
Absolutely.

1228
01:20:28,600 --> 01:20:33,240
You know, that's that's a
really, really good point about,

1229
01:20:33,320 --> 01:20:37,680
you know, disciplining your mind
even, which is hard work, right?

1230
01:20:40,680 --> 01:20:43,080
I know, OK, this is a horrible
admission.

1231
01:20:43,080 --> 01:20:44,720
Now you're going to see some of
my faults here.

1232
01:20:46,560 --> 01:20:52,120
When I was, it was actually when
I was in college when I told you

1233
01:20:52,120 --> 01:20:58,560
about I had picked up a bad meal
somewhere and I got salmonella,

1234
01:20:58,560 --> 01:21:03,640
like way bad, like way bad.
Like I thought I was like dying.

1235
01:21:03,640 --> 01:21:06,000
The symptoms were that bad,
right?

1236
01:21:06,160 --> 01:21:08,600
Like, hey, it's been a good run,
but I might have to hit this

1237
01:21:08,640 --> 01:21:14,680
time card a little early.
But all of a sudden there were

1238
01:21:14,680 --> 01:21:17,160
certain foods I couldn't eat
anymore, right?

1239
01:21:17,400 --> 01:21:19,480
Pasta and bread is one of them,
right?

1240
01:21:19,480 --> 01:21:24,960
I just, if I have especially
pasta, if I have just a little

1241
01:21:24,960 --> 01:21:28,640
bit, my gut is tore up for the
next two weeks, right?

1242
01:21:28,640 --> 01:21:30,760
Just pack it in.
You're done.

1243
01:21:32,920 --> 01:21:39,480
And so I know this, right?
Like I knew this, this was, you

1244
01:21:39,480 --> 01:21:42,720
know, the doctor was like, look,
there's going to be some things

1245
01:21:42,720 --> 01:21:45,360
that you'll never eat again and
some that you might be able to

1246
01:21:45,360 --> 01:21:49,360
get eat to eat later, But most
likely American pasta.

1247
01:21:49,520 --> 01:21:51,840
Nope, that's not for you
anymore, right?

1248
01:21:52,160 --> 01:21:54,560
Tomatoes are going to be that
way for a little while and then

1249
01:21:54,560 --> 01:21:56,600
it'll get better.
He was right.

1250
01:21:57,080 --> 01:21:59,320
That doctor, I got to give him
credit, he was right.

1251
01:21:59,320 --> 01:22:03,160
And I'm usually really hard on
doctors, but that dude was 100%

1252
01:22:03,160 --> 01:22:07,600
correct.
So like, I get feeling better,

1253
01:22:07,720 --> 01:22:10,040
right?
Because I'm a moron.

1254
01:22:10,560 --> 01:22:13,760
I get I get feeling better and
all of a sudden we go out for

1255
01:22:13,760 --> 01:22:16,600
dinner and I'm like, yeah,
lasagna sounds.

1256
01:22:16,760 --> 01:22:19,040
Good.
Right, right.

1257
01:22:19,440 --> 01:22:21,200
Lasagna sounds like the way to
go.

1258
01:22:21,560 --> 01:22:26,800
And I eat that and holy cow,
like, just tore me up.

1259
01:22:26,800 --> 01:22:30,640
And I did it like you'd have
thought, like, OK, dude, you

1260
01:22:30,640 --> 01:22:32,920
like, learn.
Are you ready to learn now?

1261
01:22:33,280 --> 01:22:35,040
Oh, no.
I probably did it another four

1262
01:22:35,040 --> 01:22:38,280
times before I got the message
that, yeah, there's no more

1263
01:22:38,280 --> 01:22:41,240
pasta for me.
That's a lack of discipline

1264
01:22:41,520 --> 01:22:46,000
right now.
Had I not ate the pasta, which

1265
01:22:46,000 --> 01:22:49,640
would have took discipline, I
would have not have hurt, which

1266
01:22:49,640 --> 01:22:54,480
meant I could do other things
rather than lay in bed and

1267
01:22:54,480 --> 01:23:00,160
writhe in pain and you know,
have have my dear sweet wife go.

1268
01:23:00,160 --> 01:23:03,040
I told you right?
And she had every right to say

1269
01:23:03,040 --> 01:23:05,080
it because she did.
She's like, Are you sure you

1270
01:23:05,080 --> 01:23:09,840
want to do this?
I'm like, do this and then and

1271
01:23:09,840 --> 01:23:13,080
then get hurt.
But she was 100% correct.

1272
01:23:14,040 --> 01:23:17,080
But I would have had more
freedom to go do things with my

1273
01:23:17,080 --> 01:23:21,120
kids to go on a hike, right,
rather than sit around the house

1274
01:23:21,120 --> 01:23:25,400
because I'm a hurting unit.
And so we do find that that

1275
01:23:25,400 --> 01:23:27,320
discipline can give us more
freedom.

1276
01:23:28,440 --> 01:23:32,080
But like anything else, you got
to, you got to hone it right.

1277
01:23:32,080 --> 01:23:34,960
You can't just assume you're
going to have it.

1278
01:23:34,960 --> 01:23:40,280
It takes work to get there.
So, but as we do this, I think

1279
01:23:40,600 --> 01:23:46,120
from from the topic we're
talking about now, the payoff is

1280
01:23:46,400 --> 01:23:49,240
beautiful, right?
You're going to be in tune.

1281
01:23:49,240 --> 01:23:50,760
You're going to get the messages
that you.

1282
01:23:51,880 --> 01:23:55,160
So Amin, you've kind of shared a
couple stories already.

1283
01:23:55,240 --> 01:23:56,760
It doesn't have to be from
there.

1284
01:23:56,760 --> 01:23:58,480
I'm not looking for that.
I'm not looking for

1285
01:23:58,480 --> 01:24:01,480
sensationalism, but what are
sometimes in your life where you

1286
01:24:01,480 --> 01:24:04,840
feel like you've been really in
tune and the Lord has blessed

1287
01:24:04,840 --> 01:24:10,960
you?
Did I have some of you ready?

1288
01:24:14,120 --> 01:24:17,880
What's that?
Well, I'll say that the

1289
01:24:17,880 --> 01:24:23,720
situation with our little girl
was certainly one of them where

1290
01:24:23,800 --> 01:24:29,280
we, we thought she had the flu
and then she got lethargic and,

1291
01:24:29,720 --> 01:24:32,000
you know, wouldn't, wouldn't
respond.

1292
01:24:32,000 --> 01:24:34,360
But we still didn't know if it
was just a high fever.

1293
01:24:35,360 --> 01:24:38,840
And I, you know, this is my
first child and I didn't know

1294
01:24:38,840 --> 01:24:40,720
for sure what we were dealing
with.

1295
01:24:42,040 --> 01:24:44,360
And my brother-in-law saw her
and was like, you know, you

1296
01:24:44,360 --> 01:24:47,160
really should take her in and
just make sure she's OK.

1297
01:24:48,040 --> 01:24:53,200
And I started to feel the
impression that she might have

1298
01:24:53,200 --> 01:24:56,160
meningitis, which, you know,
that's, that's the worst thing

1299
01:24:56,160 --> 01:24:58,400
you want to feel like your child
has, right.

1300
01:24:59,400 --> 01:25:06,920
And we went into the clinic and
the nurse came in and checked

1301
01:25:06,920 --> 01:25:09,640
her and said she just got a
fever, you know, take her home,

1302
01:25:09,720 --> 01:25:11,360
give her some juice, she'll be
OK.

1303
01:25:12,160 --> 01:25:16,680
And I had this depression.
No, you need more than this.

1304
01:25:16,680 --> 01:25:19,840
And so I'm like, she, you know,
she's not drinking.

1305
01:25:19,840 --> 01:25:22,240
We can't do anything.
Can you get me somebody else?

1306
01:25:23,840 --> 01:25:27,360
And though she goes and gets her
charging nurse and she comes and

1307
01:25:27,360 --> 01:25:29,240
looks her over and she starts
saying the same thing.

1308
01:25:29,240 --> 01:25:32,320
And then she takes a closer look
at her and says, get her to the

1309
01:25:32,320 --> 01:25:35,400
hospital right now.
And I was so thankful.

1310
01:25:35,400 --> 01:25:40,440
I felt that impression.
They say, you know, we need, we

1311
01:25:40,440 --> 01:25:42,760
need more because we're in
trouble.

1312
01:25:43,800 --> 01:25:48,560
And the difference between
losing her life or not was

1313
01:25:48,560 --> 01:25:52,360
really what that came down to at
that point, because we ended up

1314
01:25:52,640 --> 01:25:55,320
running into the hospital and
they send us straight up to

1315
01:25:55,320 --> 01:26:01,480
primaries, got the tests in.
And I think, I think we're in a

1316
01:26:01,480 --> 01:26:04,200
matter of hours.
We could have lost her if we

1317
01:26:04,200 --> 01:26:05,520
hadn't done that.
Wow.

1318
01:26:08,880 --> 01:26:12,520
Oh.
That that'd be a one of the

1319
01:26:12,520 --> 01:26:17,840
extreme ones in my life.
But yeah, those are the lessons

1320
01:26:17,840 --> 01:26:23,120
we want to build around, right?
That's one of those stories that

1321
01:26:23,120 --> 01:26:28,320
that I think we can really take
to the bank just so often when

1322
01:26:28,320 --> 01:26:31,640
we follow the spirit, we don't
have a story to tell, right,

1323
01:26:31,640 --> 01:26:34,840
because the Lord has kept us out
of danger, right.

1324
01:26:35,520 --> 01:26:39,120
And so this is one of those
stories that that I think is, is

1325
01:26:39,400 --> 01:26:41,800
illustrates that so well.
You were in a place where you

1326
01:26:41,800 --> 01:26:46,880
could receive revelation and
when you had look, you're not a

1327
01:26:46,880 --> 01:26:51,360
doctor, right?
You probably, you probably

1328
01:26:51,360 --> 01:26:54,760
weren't super familiar with
meningitis, but something,

1329
01:26:55,720 --> 01:26:58,800
something there, the spirit told
you, this is what it is.

1330
01:26:59,720 --> 01:27:02,520
And to your credit, right, this
is a credit to you.

1331
01:27:03,480 --> 01:27:05,880
You held their feet to the fire.
You said no, no, no, no.

1332
01:27:05,880 --> 01:27:08,200
There's something else going on
here and you need to take

1333
01:27:08,200 --> 01:27:11,920
another look.
And because you did that, who

1334
01:27:11,920 --> 01:27:14,640
knows how that story, like you
said, who knows how that story

1335
01:27:14,640 --> 01:27:21,000
ends If, if you're not, if
you're not in able to feel the

1336
01:27:21,000 --> 01:27:23,080
spirit at that point and get a
prompting.

1337
01:27:24,040 --> 01:27:28,280
So let let me ask you this.
Did you realize in that moment

1338
01:27:28,280 --> 01:27:30,720
that it was the Spirit telling
you that, or do you think that

1339
01:27:30,720 --> 01:27:32,040
was something you thought about
later?

1340
01:27:33,200 --> 01:27:36,720
I think I recognized after like
the moment I just followed the,

1341
01:27:37,480 --> 01:27:41,000
the feeling I felt and the, the
voice, you know, it wasn't me,

1342
01:27:42,000 --> 01:27:44,240
but I wasn't sitting there
thinking, OK, I, you know, I've

1343
01:27:44,240 --> 01:27:48,640
got it or anything like that.
It was just in full, just a

1344
01:27:48,640 --> 01:27:51,640
simple obedience to the
impression you felt or I felt.

1345
01:27:53,040 --> 01:27:57,640
And I think that whole
experience, I learned that the

1346
01:27:57,640 --> 01:28:02,920
parents can be in tune enough
that often through that

1347
01:28:02,920 --> 01:28:06,040
experience, we we had the
answers before the doctors on

1348
01:28:06,040 --> 01:28:08,680
what she would need, what she
needed.

1349
01:28:09,240 --> 01:28:12,880
And I'm sure you've been through
experiences like that with your

1350
01:28:12,880 --> 01:28:17,080
children where in the hospital,
it's like, it's like you get the

1351
01:28:17,080 --> 01:28:19,520
impression this is what my
child's dealing with right now.

1352
01:28:19,520 --> 01:28:22,960
And the doctor comes in and
tells you everything's normal

1353
01:28:22,960 --> 01:28:24,600
and you're like, no, we need
this.

1354
01:28:25,640 --> 01:28:28,680
And my lesson became to learn to
follow that.

1355
01:28:29,000 --> 01:28:35,200
We went through that. 100% I
just went through one just last

1356
01:28:35,200 --> 01:28:39,480
week before Christmas with, with
our new little boy.

1357
01:28:39,800 --> 01:28:42,560
Look, he was born premature
because he had to be right

1358
01:28:42,880 --> 01:28:46,640
because of some medical things.
And so he started to get a

1359
01:28:46,640 --> 01:28:49,040
little bit jaundiced, right?
And you know what that is?

1360
01:28:49,600 --> 01:28:54,720
And it didn't surprise me a
whole bunch because that's what

1361
01:28:54,720 --> 01:28:57,360
preemies do, right?
And then after about 5 days, it,

1362
01:28:57,520 --> 01:29:01,040
it kind of goes away.
Tanya got a little concerned and

1363
01:29:01,040 --> 01:29:02,840
she said, can you come look at
him with me?

1364
01:29:02,920 --> 01:29:05,120
I'm like, sure, you know,
because I was in my office here

1365
01:29:05,120 --> 01:29:07,560
working.
And so I was like, yeah, let me

1366
01:29:07,560 --> 01:29:10,920
let let's go take a look.
And we go in there and he didn't

1367
01:29:10,920 --> 01:29:13,680
look horrible, right?
Like I definitely had kids that

1368
01:29:13,680 --> 01:29:18,360
were more jaundiced than what he
was, but something just didn't

1369
01:29:18,360 --> 01:29:22,240
feel right, right?
He seemed a little lethargic and

1370
01:29:22,320 --> 01:29:24,200
Tanya's like, you think we
should take him in?

1371
01:29:24,200 --> 01:29:26,320
And I was kind of like, I don't
know.

1372
01:29:26,320 --> 01:29:27,880
And then I just got this
impression.

1373
01:29:27,880 --> 01:29:36,120
Go, just go, right?
And we went and when we got

1374
01:29:36,120 --> 01:29:42,280
there, they took a blood sample.
Now a normal for for a normal

1375
01:29:42,280 --> 01:29:45,080
person, jaundice levels are
pretty low, right?

1376
01:29:45,080 --> 01:29:48,280
You're talking single digits,
the Billy ribbon.

1377
01:29:48,280 --> 01:29:50,280
Excuse me.
That's the chemical that causes

1378
01:29:50,280 --> 01:29:53,200
the jaundice.
Billy ribbon is, is pretty low

1379
01:29:53,200 --> 01:29:56,880
single digits.
They start to worry about babies

1380
01:29:56,880 --> 01:30:00,920
at like a 12 count on your Billy
ribbon.

1381
01:30:01,440 --> 01:30:08,440
He was at 18 and so, but he
didn't look like he was that

1382
01:30:08,440 --> 01:30:10,280
jaundiced.
I mean, like if I was to put a

1383
01:30:10,280 --> 01:30:12,600
number to it and, and again,
I've been through it 6 times.

1384
01:30:12,600 --> 01:30:15,320
So I'm pretty not my first
rodeo, right?

1385
01:30:15,840 --> 01:30:19,720
I, I would have guessed he was
at tops and eight, right?

1386
01:30:20,880 --> 01:30:25,960
But he was at 18.
And the doctors at the, because

1387
01:30:25,960 --> 01:30:29,480
we took him to a smaller ER
because it was closer.

1388
01:30:29,920 --> 01:30:33,080
And I honestly thought I was
overreacting to a certain, at a

1389
01:30:33,080 --> 01:30:36,520
certain level, right?
My, my, my, my mind was telling

1390
01:30:36,520 --> 01:30:38,800
me, yeah, that you're going to
get in there, going to take a

1391
01:30:38,800 --> 01:30:41,240
blood sample and they're going
to send you home, right?

1392
01:30:42,320 --> 01:30:45,160
It was the spirit, it's my heart
that was telling me something

1393
01:30:45,160 --> 01:30:46,920
different.
Exactly.

1394
01:30:47,280 --> 01:30:49,880
And so we got to the when they
took the blood sample, they're

1395
01:30:49,880 --> 01:30:55,520
like, you need to get to to the
hospital in Springfield now.

1396
01:30:56,320 --> 01:30:58,080
And I was like, are we going by
ambulance?

1397
01:30:58,080 --> 01:31:01,040
And they're like, we don't have
an ambulance here right now.

1398
01:31:01,360 --> 01:31:04,200
And if we were to wait to get
one from Springfield, it's going

1399
01:31:04,200 --> 01:31:06,200
to be double the time.
So you're going to go on your

1400
01:31:06,200 --> 01:31:10,080
own, but do not stop, right.
Like it's high enough that they

1401
01:31:10,080 --> 01:31:13,480
start worrying about like can
affect your hearing, it can

1402
01:31:13,760 --> 01:31:17,000
affect your vision.
It can give strokes like it was

1403
01:31:17,440 --> 01:31:23,800
go now, had I not listened to
Tanya and then listen to the

1404
01:31:23,800 --> 01:31:27,160
spirit, who knows what that
looks like, right?

1405
01:31:27,160 --> 01:31:32,720
And that's just recently, right?
And I was I was thinking about

1406
01:31:32,720 --> 01:31:35,640
that later that night as
everything was calm.

1407
01:31:36,080 --> 01:31:40,000
Tanya was sleeping, I was trying
to sleep.

1408
01:31:41,000 --> 01:31:46,040
Asher was in his in his little,
it's not quite a crib.

1409
01:31:46,040 --> 01:31:48,680
You know what I'm talking about
the little clear bassinet things

1410
01:31:49,160 --> 01:31:52,040
that had a Billy light over the
top, a blue light.

1411
01:31:53,560 --> 01:31:57,800
And I just remember I said a
prayer of Thanksgiving to the

1412
01:31:57,800 --> 01:32:00,920
Lord that he had he'd worked
with me at that point.

1413
01:32:02,040 --> 01:32:11,120
And I thought, man, what I do
that day that like, what did I

1414
01:32:11,120 --> 01:32:15,520
do that day that allowed me to
stay in that, in that space, in

1415
01:32:15,520 --> 01:32:19,000
that revelatory space?
And I was thinking back, I was

1416
01:32:19,000 --> 01:32:23,880
like, I didn't do much right.
I, I guess I did a podcast and,

1417
01:32:23,880 --> 01:32:26,440
and I did read my scriptures
this morning and we did say our

1418
01:32:26,440 --> 01:32:30,080
prayers.
I mean, there is that, But then,

1419
01:32:30,920 --> 01:32:32,840
then I got a very distinct
message.

1420
01:32:32,840 --> 01:32:36,920
Like it's enough, right?
Like that's, that's enough.

1421
01:32:37,440 --> 01:32:41,080
You, you tried and, and I'm
going to be here for you when

1422
01:32:41,080 --> 01:32:46,920
you try, son.
And I guess that's where I'd

1423
01:32:46,920 --> 01:32:51,600
wrap this all up at, right?
We live in some tremendously

1424
01:32:52,280 --> 01:32:55,960
confused times and that's only
going to get worse.

1425
01:32:57,800 --> 01:33:02,840
And it's not, it's not really
super hard things that the Lord

1426
01:33:02,840 --> 01:33:07,680
is asking us to do so that we
can extract what we need from

1427
01:33:07,680 --> 01:33:11,840
the scriptures as a defense and
be open to revelation, which is

1428
01:33:11,840 --> 01:33:16,000
personal scripture.
He's not asking for a lot.

1429
01:33:16,360 --> 01:33:18,440
He's just asking for a little,
right?

1430
01:33:18,960 --> 01:33:21,840
Do the little things and he can
come through for you.

1431
01:33:22,480 --> 01:33:25,840
And I'll turn it back over to
you now Ammon, to to wrap this

1432
01:33:25,840 --> 01:33:27,280
up with anything else you want
to say.

1433
01:33:28,680 --> 01:33:33,680
Well, thanks for that, Dave and
I in that experience I had when

1434
01:33:33,680 --> 01:33:37,720
you, when you have your baby
dying in your arms, suddenly the

1435
01:33:37,720 --> 01:33:40,520
things that really matter in the
life is all it counts to you.

1436
01:33:41,280 --> 01:33:44,320
Everything else is silly waste
of time.

1437
01:33:44,320 --> 01:33:52,840
You know, and family, God, your
religion, your belief in

1438
01:33:52,840 --> 01:33:55,640
salvation, that that's what
becomes important all of a

1439
01:33:55,640 --> 01:34:03,200
sudden and having that closeness
with God, absolutely.

1440
01:34:06,280 --> 01:34:10,520
That's what I learned.
No, I think, I think you're 100%

1441
01:34:10,520 --> 01:34:14,200
correct.
And again, I go back to the

1442
01:34:14,200 --> 01:34:16,800
account with the Savior right
where he repels those

1443
01:34:16,800 --> 01:34:21,280
temptations with the scriptures.
If it's good enough for the

1444
01:34:21,280 --> 01:34:23,520
Savior, it's good enough for us.
Right.

1445
01:34:24,520 --> 01:34:26,040
We just got to get in there and
learn them.

1446
01:34:28,120 --> 01:34:32,360
And, and I want to say this, so
many people think that they have

1447
01:34:32,360 --> 01:34:37,600
to be a master scriptorian in
order to gain the effect of

1448
01:34:37,600 --> 01:34:42,960
using the scriptures as that
sword that can, can defend

1449
01:34:42,960 --> 01:34:48,760
against temptation or against
false messages or whatever the

1450
01:34:48,760 --> 01:34:52,160
case is.
That's not the case.

1451
01:34:52,160 --> 01:34:56,680
I have found right There have
been times where I have recalled

1452
01:34:56,680 --> 01:34:58,520
things that I had no business
recalling.

1453
01:35:00,960 --> 01:35:03,960
Yeah, that.
That's how I am I.

1454
01:35:03,960 --> 01:35:06,400
Can tell you.
I'm the worst.

1455
01:35:06,400 --> 01:35:08,280
I'm the worst to just remember
in scripture.

1456
01:35:08,280 --> 01:35:12,920
I I read it and often I only
remember if it's something I

1457
01:35:12,920 --> 01:35:17,080
need at that moment.
Right, right.

1458
01:35:18,840 --> 01:35:22,080
But if we make, if we make the
effort, I think that's the

1459
01:35:22,080 --> 01:35:25,800
promise, right?
That's, that's the promise.

1460
01:35:25,800 --> 01:35:28,200
It's like, look, I understand
the the Lord tells us he

1461
01:35:28,200 --> 01:35:31,360
understands our weaknesses and
if we work with him, he'll make

1462
01:35:31,360 --> 01:35:35,960
our weaknesses, our strengths.
And so I may not always remember

1463
01:35:35,960 --> 01:35:39,440
what book of scripture it came
out of, but usually I'm talking

1464
01:35:39,440 --> 01:35:42,080
to someone way smarter than me
so I can start quoting it and

1465
01:35:42,080 --> 01:35:43,400
they'll be like, Oh yeah, that's
here.

1466
01:35:43,840 --> 01:35:47,280
But nonetheless, it'll bring it
to your remembrance.

1467
01:35:47,640 --> 01:35:53,520
And those scriptures have been
such, such a guide in my life.

1468
01:35:54,600 --> 01:35:57,600
I do think I want to end with
with just this story here.

1469
01:35:57,600 --> 01:36:00,720
And I don't know if I've ever
told this on the podcast before,

1470
01:36:01,680 --> 01:36:05,480
but I'm no, I know I have, I
have, but I'll tell it again

1471
01:36:05,480 --> 01:36:10,000
here.
When I was first becoming a

1472
01:36:10,000 --> 01:36:14,480
Mormon, the the lessons were
really, really structured.

1473
01:36:15,560 --> 01:36:19,320
It was like some pamphlets with
the reading assignment.

1474
01:36:19,320 --> 01:36:21,000
And I think there was seven of
them.

1475
01:36:21,720 --> 01:36:29,840
And you, you were first given
the the pamphlet on, on, you

1476
01:36:29,840 --> 01:36:31,880
know the Joseph Smith story,
right?

1477
01:36:32,160 --> 01:36:34,640
He goes into the Grove, he he
prays.

1478
01:36:34,640 --> 01:36:37,240
And then the Book of Mormon
comes and it's another record of

1479
01:36:37,280 --> 01:36:41,080
Jesus Christ.
And the assignment that the

1480
01:36:41,080 --> 01:36:45,040
missionaries left you with was
you were going to try Moroni's

1481
01:36:45,040 --> 01:36:47,280
promise, right?
You were going to ask with

1482
01:36:47,280 --> 01:36:53,280
sincere intent if the Book of
Mormon, if it's true, if Joseph

1483
01:36:53,280 --> 01:36:56,000
Smith was a prophet and if the
the gospel is true.

1484
01:36:58,000 --> 01:37:01,640
And so I was like, I'm going to
be honest with you.

1485
01:37:01,800 --> 01:37:06,040
When Amber first came to me and
said, Hey, we're getting close

1486
01:37:06,040 --> 01:37:09,520
to being married and we should
probably have this talk.

1487
01:37:10,000 --> 01:37:11,920
I would like to raise the kids
LDS.

1488
01:37:11,920 --> 01:37:15,360
Do you have a problem with that?
And I was like, sweetheart, some

1489
01:37:15,360 --> 01:37:19,800
of my best designated drivers
were LDSI have no problems with

1490
01:37:19,800 --> 01:37:22,240
that whatsoever.
And she said, well, would you

1491
01:37:22,240 --> 01:37:23,920
like to know what your kids are
going to learn?

1492
01:37:23,920 --> 01:37:28,200
And I'm like, not really right.
Like by this point, I'd put I'd

1493
01:37:28,200 --> 01:37:33,040
put the idea of finding the one
true God and the 11 true system

1494
01:37:33,040 --> 01:37:36,720
of religion out of my mind.
I just figured it didn't exist.

1495
01:37:37,320 --> 01:37:40,440
I had friends that offered those
same designated drivers would be

1496
01:37:40,440 --> 01:37:42,320
like, well, if you're studying a
religion, you're going to study

1497
01:37:42,320 --> 01:37:45,920
mine, right?
And I'm like, no, no, I'm not.

1498
01:37:46,120 --> 01:37:50,160
But thanks for offering because
there's no way a farm boy from

1499
01:37:50,560 --> 01:37:52,920
upstate New York has anything
worthwhile to say.

1500
01:37:54,840 --> 01:37:57,040
And she said, well, it would
really mean a lot to me and my

1501
01:37:57,040 --> 01:38:01,640
mom.
I said, it's going to smooth

1502
01:38:01,640 --> 01:38:04,800
things over with your mom.
She's like, it will sure help.

1503
01:38:05,560 --> 01:38:09,760
And I was like, fair enough.
I'll take the discussion on on

1504
01:38:10,040 --> 01:38:13,920
on one condition.
If anybody asked me to get

1505
01:38:13,920 --> 01:38:18,000
baptized, I am out of there.
I will shut that down and I will

1506
01:38:18,000 --> 01:38:21,200
be done.
And that was the agreement.

1507
01:38:22,280 --> 01:38:25,600
So I have to go over to her
mom's house to take the lessons

1508
01:38:25,600 --> 01:38:28,000
because at that time, I'm still
living at my mom's place.

1509
01:38:28,000 --> 01:38:32,600
I'm only 17.
And my mom was like, yeah, you

1510
01:38:32,600 --> 01:38:34,600
will not be taking those
discussions here.

1511
01:38:36,120 --> 01:38:38,680
You can take them over at
Amber's house.

1512
01:38:38,840 --> 01:38:42,000
And so I had to go.
It was like a 30 minute drive.

1513
01:38:42,000 --> 01:38:45,320
I had to go out to Amber's place
and take the discussions.

1514
01:38:45,800 --> 01:38:49,440
So we take the first discussion
and I'm like, sweet, this was

1515
01:38:49,440 --> 01:38:50,360
awesome.
Thanks.

1516
01:38:50,480 --> 01:38:51,840
Right.
And they had a guest room.

1517
01:38:52,400 --> 01:38:55,920
And so I was staying in the
guest room.

1518
01:38:56,200 --> 01:39:00,640
And then the next morning, Amber
and her mom, Amber was just

1519
01:39:00,640 --> 01:39:03,520
graduating high school.
Amber and her mom were going up

1520
01:39:03,520 --> 01:39:06,400
to a little resort town in Idaho
called McCall, where they were

1521
01:39:06,400 --> 01:39:09,080
going to spend a good long
weekend just kind of

1522
01:39:09,080 --> 01:39:11,440
celebrating.
I had plants.

1523
01:39:11,440 --> 01:39:13,480
I was like, I'm going to go to
the river and I'm going to fish

1524
01:39:13,480 --> 01:39:15,160
and I'm going to camp because
that's what I did.

1525
01:39:16,280 --> 01:39:21,480
I had my own little spot back
there that was all by itself.

1526
01:39:21,480 --> 01:39:25,560
And I it, it was kind of marked
by a tree that had no limbs.

1527
01:39:25,560 --> 01:39:30,320
It had kind of been burnt.
But it kind of when you got out

1528
01:39:30,320 --> 01:39:32,560
there, it was right along the
river and there was this little

1529
01:39:32,600 --> 01:39:35,600
Eddy that kind of flowed in and
the water really slowed down.

1530
01:39:36,440 --> 01:39:40,320
And so I can always just throw
my wine in the water and just

1531
01:39:40,320 --> 01:39:45,560
catch what I was going to eat.
So I get home right after that

1532
01:39:45,560 --> 01:39:48,720
discussion and I take all my
crap out of my bag and I throw a

1533
01:39:48,720 --> 01:39:50,960
whole bunch of other crap in
there that I'm going to need

1534
01:39:50,960 --> 01:39:57,160
right tackle bait a tent, right?
Not a tent, but, but like a

1535
01:39:57,160 --> 01:39:58,920
sleeping bag and some other
stuff.

1536
01:39:58,920 --> 01:40:03,320
And I'm off and going right Park
my car there at the, at the, the

1537
01:40:03,320 --> 01:40:05,760
drop off point hike back to
three miles.

1538
01:40:06,160 --> 01:40:09,320
By the time I get out there,
Amit, it is darn near pitch

1539
01:40:09,320 --> 01:40:11,480
black, right?
Like I can get out there.

1540
01:40:11,880 --> 01:40:15,360
I can get my tent set up.
I got a fire built.

1541
01:40:15,720 --> 01:40:20,840
I got my pole in the water and I
thought sweet, I'm ready to eat

1542
01:40:20,840 --> 01:40:22,960
because I got a bunch.
I got some butter, I got some

1543
01:40:22,960 --> 01:40:24,720
lemon, I got some salt and
pepper.

1544
01:40:25,240 --> 01:40:27,240
Like going to be good fish,
right?

1545
01:40:28,400 --> 01:40:32,280
Throw my line in the water and
it doesn't move for like 1/2

1546
01:40:32,280 --> 01:40:34,680
hour, which is odd.
I'd always been able to get

1547
01:40:34,680 --> 01:40:37,520
there and within 5 to 10
minutes, I always had landed to

1548
01:40:37,520 --> 01:40:42,520
fish and I couldn't, I could see
the fish move down there like I

1549
01:40:42,520 --> 01:40:46,760
would like turned my flashlight
on and you could see him down

1550
01:40:46,760 --> 01:40:49,120
there swimming around the line,
but they weren't taking it.

1551
01:40:50,000 --> 01:40:52,200
And I was like, well, this
stinks, right?

1552
01:40:52,200 --> 01:40:55,960
Because it's like a three, 2
1/2, three mile hike out of

1553
01:40:55,960 --> 01:40:58,960
there and there's no way I'm
making it in the dark.

1554
01:40:59,480 --> 01:41:03,600
So I'm like, I guess I'm just
going to sit here tonight, go

1555
01:41:03,600 --> 01:41:06,520
hungry, and then in the morning
I'll wake up and I'll go home

1556
01:41:06,520 --> 01:41:10,760
and I'll eat.
I'm like, but it's only like

1557
01:41:11,040 --> 01:41:13,960
9:00, right?
So I got a long night ahead of

1558
01:41:13,960 --> 01:41:17,040
me and I'm just sitting there.
I'm like, I don't even know what

1559
01:41:17,040 --> 01:41:19,240
I'm going to do now.
And I just happened to glance

1560
01:41:19,240 --> 01:41:23,320
over at that bag and I'd forgot
to take that little missionary

1561
01:41:23,320 --> 01:41:24,720
version of the Book of Mormon
out.

1562
01:41:26,640 --> 01:41:28,080
I'm sitting there and I'm
looking around.

1563
01:41:28,080 --> 01:41:32,480
I'm like, well, no one's here to
watch me.

1564
01:41:33,080 --> 01:41:34,520
So I'll guess I'll give this a
try.

1565
01:41:35,760 --> 01:41:39,240
So I reread Moroni's Promise
again, and I'm going to be

1566
01:41:39,240 --> 01:41:43,400
honest with you, it sounded like
the Bible, right?

1567
01:41:43,400 --> 01:41:45,920
I wasn't too.
There was nothing there that

1568
01:41:45,920 --> 01:41:50,360
really shook me, right?
Like, no, that's not it.

1569
01:41:50,360 --> 01:41:53,120
So I kind of put the book back
down, look at my pole.

1570
01:41:53,120 --> 01:41:57,120
It's still just stationary, not
moving.

1571
01:41:57,640 --> 01:42:01,240
And I'm like, OK.
And I look at the book again and

1572
01:42:01,240 --> 01:42:04,680
I'm like, well, I mean, you're
not doing anything else.

1573
01:42:04,680 --> 01:42:05,920
You might as well flip through
there.

1574
01:42:05,920 --> 01:42:09,920
So I flipped through there and I
read probably a few different

1575
01:42:09,920 --> 01:42:12,000
stories.
But the one that got me, the one

1576
01:42:12,000 --> 01:42:17,760
that that that that made me
focus in was about Abinadi,

1577
01:42:18,280 --> 01:42:22,520
right when he's talking to the
pre, the the king, King Noah

1578
01:42:22,520 --> 01:42:26,080
there and his wicked priests.
And then he dies for what he

1579
01:42:26,080 --> 01:42:29,520
believes.
That made a mark.

1580
01:42:30,600 --> 01:42:36,760
And I thought, OK, all right,
well, I guess I can can pray

1581
01:42:36,760 --> 01:42:40,560
about this now, right now, I
hadn't really prayed in quite

1582
01:42:40,560 --> 01:42:46,120
some time, like at all.
And so I probably offered the

1583
01:42:46,120 --> 01:42:51,240
most rudimentary rough prayer
that has ever been given on the

1584
01:42:51,240 --> 01:42:54,400
face of the earth.
And there was no miraculous

1585
01:42:54,400 --> 01:42:55,800
vision.
There was nothing like that.

1586
01:42:55,800 --> 01:42:59,160
But there was a knowing, right?
I got up off my knees knowing

1587
01:43:00,440 --> 01:43:04,560
that this was all true and I
remember thinking, oh, I don't

1588
01:43:04,560 --> 01:43:08,040
want to do this right.
I do not want to be a Mormon

1589
01:43:08,360 --> 01:43:11,160
right?
Like let me be a Catholic 10

1590
01:43:11,160 --> 01:43:14,280
times over, but please not
Mormonism.

1591
01:43:15,720 --> 01:43:21,880
Nonetheless, I knew, but in my
arrogant 17 year old immature

1592
01:43:21,880 --> 01:43:25,640
mind, I thought I got God still,
right?

1593
01:43:25,880 --> 01:43:31,200
I because I told everybody,
everybody Ammon, that if anybody

1594
01:43:31,200 --> 01:43:35,000
was to get asked me to be
baptized, I was getting out of

1595
01:43:35,000 --> 01:43:37,040
there, right?
We were shutting it down.

1596
01:43:37,360 --> 01:43:40,360
And look, this is western Idaho,
not a ton of teaching

1597
01:43:40,360 --> 01:43:42,600
opportunities.
So you should be just glad

1598
01:43:42,600 --> 01:43:44,680
enough that someone's willing to
sit through these, right?

1599
01:43:45,520 --> 01:43:51,400
And so I think, hey, I'm cool
because everybody knows not to

1600
01:43:51,400 --> 01:43:57,520
ask me to be baptized, right?
And I call up Amber when I get

1601
01:43:57,520 --> 01:44:00,240
home and I'm like, hey, what
discussion is it that they

1602
01:44:00,240 --> 01:44:03,640
usually ask you to be baptized?
She said, I think it's the 3rd

1603
01:44:03,640 --> 01:44:05,760
or the 4th.
And I was like, perfect.

1604
01:44:06,280 --> 01:44:08,840
And she's like, you're still
determined not to be baptized,

1605
01:44:08,840 --> 01:44:10,440
aren't you?
And I'm like, Yep.

1606
01:44:11,200 --> 01:44:12,840
And then just kind of left it
there.

1607
01:44:12,840 --> 01:44:16,800
But I said, I still take the
discussions because, well,

1608
01:44:17,040 --> 01:44:20,360
because I loved her and and I
wanted everything to be kosher.

1609
01:44:22,640 --> 01:44:25,720
Now, the two elders that taught
me, one was named Elder Peruca.

1610
01:44:25,760 --> 01:44:29,440
He was from East Texas.
The other was Elder Ananich and

1611
01:44:29,440 --> 01:44:34,280
he was from Russia and he had
not been out very long from

1612
01:44:34,280 --> 01:44:37,400
Russia.
Like that first discussion, he

1613
01:44:37,400 --> 01:44:41,640
could say Jesus Christ and Amen.
And that was about the extent of

1614
01:44:41,640 --> 01:44:46,360
his English.
So the second discussion starts

1615
01:44:46,400 --> 01:44:49,680
and I'm not even worried because
I know that the third and 4th is

1616
01:44:49,680 --> 01:44:52,480
if, if the, if they're going to
feel froggy and jump and then

1617
01:44:52,480 --> 01:44:55,160
ask me to be baptized, it's
going to be during those two

1618
01:44:55,160 --> 01:44:58,760
lessons.
So I have nothing to worry about

1619
01:44:58,760 --> 01:45:01,360
Ammon.
I'm like, I'm totally relaxed,

1620
01:45:01,920 --> 01:45:05,120
right?
So Elder Peruca starts to teach

1621
01:45:05,120 --> 01:45:09,280
the lesson and that rush that
elder from Russia, Elder Ananich

1622
01:45:09,280 --> 01:45:12,840
man, he like locked eyes with me
and wouldn't stop.

1623
01:45:12,880 --> 01:45:16,400
And I'm thinking to myself, This
is why the KGB was so effective,

1624
01:45:16,400 --> 01:45:18,680
because I'm about ready to spill
my guts to this guy.

1625
01:45:19,080 --> 01:45:22,520
Like he, he was just mad dogging
me the whole time.

1626
01:45:23,360 --> 01:45:26,400
And part I remember at one point
I'm like, are we going to have

1627
01:45:26,400 --> 01:45:28,240
problem?
Like that was some of my

1628
01:45:28,240 --> 01:45:30,320
thoughts.
Like it was an intense stare.

1629
01:45:31,200 --> 01:45:36,960
And then so they're about like
they're about halfway through

1630
01:45:36,960 --> 01:45:40,760
that second lesson and it was
like on priesthood, right?

1631
01:45:40,760 --> 01:45:46,880
It wasn't nowhere near baptism.
And all of the sudden, Elder

1632
01:45:46,880 --> 01:45:50,800
Ananich just takes his hand and
puts it on Elder Perucca's knee.

1633
01:45:51,240 --> 01:45:53,840
And Elder Peruca kind of jumps
and looks at him.

1634
01:45:54,280 --> 01:45:57,320
And then Elder Ananich without,
I swear he didn't blink that

1635
01:45:57,320 --> 01:45:59,960
whole, that whole lesson.
He didn't blink.

1636
01:46:00,480 --> 01:46:03,920
He just goes and, and, and the
worst English I've ever heard,

1637
01:46:03,920 --> 01:46:11,400
he goes, would you be baptized?
And I'm like, I'm it, I'm like,

1638
01:46:11,800 --> 01:46:13,440
how?
Right.

1639
01:46:14,200 --> 01:46:17,680
And at that point, I'm done dead
to rights.

1640
01:46:17,680 --> 01:46:22,080
I've already received my answer.
And I just and oh, everybody's

1641
01:46:22,080 --> 01:46:24,080
face in there.
So it was Amber, her mom, the

1642
01:46:24,080 --> 01:46:27,480
two elders and me, and then
another man named Gary who

1643
01:46:27,480 --> 01:46:29,400
really helped me come along in
the gospel.

1644
01:46:30,320 --> 01:46:34,600
When when they said that you
could hear the collective right,

1645
01:46:34,600 --> 01:46:38,440
just kind of that gasp.
They, they knew what was

1646
01:46:38,440 --> 01:46:42,920
supposed to be coming and I just
sat there and I looked at Amber

1647
01:46:42,920 --> 01:46:44,960
and I hung my head and I just
said yes.

1648
01:46:45,400 --> 01:46:51,240
Now why do I tell that story?
I tell that story for two

1649
01:46:51,240 --> 01:46:55,040
reasons and it's 2 reasons you
and I talked about here tonight.

1650
01:46:55,520 --> 01:47:02,560
1 The scriptures have the power
to change hearts and minds when

1651
01:47:02,560 --> 01:47:09,240
read sincerely.
When the doctrine distills on

1652
01:47:09,240 --> 01:47:15,000
your heart and finds place in
your heart, it absolutely makes

1653
01:47:15,320 --> 01:47:17,400
good men better and bad men
good.

1654
01:47:19,040 --> 01:47:24,760
Second, Elder Ananich did not
matter if he knew English didn't

1655
01:47:24,760 --> 01:47:28,280
matter.
He was obviously a man that put

1656
01:47:28,280 --> 01:47:31,240
himself in the right place to
get the revelation he needed at

1657
01:47:31,240 --> 01:47:35,680
the right time to ask a 17 year
old snot nosed kid who thought

1658
01:47:35,680 --> 01:47:43,520
he had God beat and went against
his his his senior companions

1659
01:47:43,520 --> 01:47:50,040
advice, not advice command and
asked me to be baptized.

1660
01:47:50,680 --> 01:47:53,840
He received the word of God in
that moment.

1661
01:47:56,520 --> 01:48:03,560
I am not.
I do not have the fullness of

1662
01:48:03,560 --> 01:48:08,080
joy I feel like I have now
without both the Canon of

1663
01:48:08,080 --> 01:48:11,520
scripture and the Word of God
that someone was willing to give

1664
01:48:11,520 --> 01:48:15,840
me at that time.
I am not here talking to you.

1665
01:48:20,080 --> 01:48:27,640
I am not here with my wife Amber
and probably and my 6 kids with

1666
01:48:27,640 --> 01:48:29,640
her.
I am not here with Tanya and

1667
01:48:29,640 --> 01:48:33,520
this new baby.
I don't know about the blessings

1668
01:48:33,520 --> 01:48:36,720
of the temple that would be gone
over later.

1669
01:48:37,280 --> 01:48:40,360
That did give me the answers to
everything I was really

1670
01:48:40,360 --> 01:48:42,280
searching for about what
happened to my old man.

1671
01:48:44,240 --> 01:48:49,200
That's the power of scripture.
It can defend, it can prick the

1672
01:48:49,200 --> 01:48:52,200
heart.
It can come to us through

1673
01:48:52,200 --> 01:48:56,560
revelation, which can greatly
bless our lives.

1674
01:48:57,600 --> 01:49:03,560
And I, I feel I want to say this
too, and then I'll really wrap

1675
01:49:03,560 --> 01:49:09,680
it up.
We're going to be asked in the

1676
01:49:09,680 --> 01:49:16,040
near future to probably say some
things that we don't want to

1677
01:49:16,040 --> 01:49:18,080
say, right?
Where we're going to have to

1678
01:49:18,080 --> 01:49:22,560
stand up for truth, all of us,
whether you're LDS, whether

1679
01:49:22,560 --> 01:49:25,560
you're a fundamentalist, it does
not matter.

1680
01:49:26,280 --> 01:49:29,040
We're going to be in the in the
times very soon.

1681
01:49:29,040 --> 01:49:33,240
I don't know when, but very soon
that we're going to have to

1682
01:49:33,240 --> 01:49:36,320
stand for truth and we're going
to have to be able to get

1683
01:49:36,320 --> 01:49:39,120
ourselves in line so that we can
receive the word of the Lord and

1684
01:49:39,120 --> 01:49:40,960
give it to somebody else as
needed.

1685
01:49:42,200 --> 01:49:44,560
And it's our job to make sure
that we're living in that

1686
01:49:44,560 --> 01:49:47,480
revelatory space.
But if we take the Scripture

1687
01:49:47,480 --> 01:49:51,120
seriously, if we could all, if
we pick up that sword of the

1688
01:49:51,120 --> 01:49:55,160
Spirit, those scriptures and get
into them, we can do that.

1689
01:49:55,400 --> 01:49:57,920
And Ammon, I'll wrap it up right
there.

1690
01:49:57,920 --> 01:50:01,000
Is there anything else you want
to say before we we pull the

1691
01:50:01,040 --> 01:50:04,080
eject button here?
Well, just as you were telling

1692
01:50:04,080 --> 01:50:10,520
that story, it really came to
mind that Jebus Smith, when he

1693
01:50:10,600 --> 01:50:14,080
went, when here he seemed that
first vision, he was dealing

1694
01:50:14,080 --> 01:50:18,200
with all that uncertainty and
all that fear, all this same

1695
01:50:18,200 --> 01:50:20,800
thing.
And then he was reading the

1696
01:50:20,800 --> 01:50:25,880
scripture, that word of God told
him what to do, but he also had

1697
01:50:25,880 --> 01:50:29,160
to follow an impression, to go
out and ask question.

1698
01:50:29,920 --> 01:50:32,840
And so he fulfilled this whole
lesson we've talked about here

1699
01:50:32,840 --> 01:50:37,840
today and changed our lives,
both of us and most of our

1700
01:50:37,840 --> 01:50:40,640
listeners here too.
Absolutely.

1701
01:50:42,880 --> 01:50:47,000
Well, Ammon, I'll tell you what
you you as old as as you did

1702
01:50:47,000 --> 01:50:48,640
before you knocked it out of the
park.

1703
01:50:49,160 --> 01:50:52,320
I'm thankful that that you
decided to come on and and I'm

1704
01:50:52,320 --> 01:50:54,880
thankful I I'm thankful I get to
count you as a friend.

1705
01:50:54,880 --> 01:50:57,840
I really do.
I think the world of you, I

1706
01:50:57,840 --> 01:51:00,080
think you got so much good work
ahead of you.

1707
01:51:00,080 --> 01:51:03,840
I'm excited for you.
Thanks for coming on, brother.

1708
01:51:05,000 --> 01:51:07,080
Hey, thank you, Dave.
Appreciate it so much.

1709
01:51:07,560 --> 01:51:09,120
You bet.
Hang out five minutes.

1710
01:51:09,120 --> 01:51:09,920
All right?
Yeah.

1711
01:51:10,800 --> 01:51:12,160
All right.
Bye everybody.
